so with my engine just chillen outta the car with a new clutch + flywheel installed. I decided to sand down the valve cover because the doode who had it b4 painted it pealing-chipped red lol

Soooo i just had a few questions or more like tips on doing it.

So i was thinking about just leaving it on a 600 grit sand down... good ? or bad do anyone have any insight or pictures??

Oh also what are some tips to putting back the valve cover.. like torque sequences, torque specs?

Pick up some aircraft remover on top of that. Strip all the paint off and hit the VC with some 600 grit sandpaper, wipe it clean, primer it and then paint it

torque sequence wise, just do a criss cross

torque specs are about 7 -9 ft lbs

600 grit will be good. thats what i used on mine. the aircraft stripper works good i also have used that stuff a whole bunch of times. what i usually do after im done sanding is wash it down with super hot water and just let it drip dry, paper towels can sometimes leave residue. if you have access hit it with some air to blow it off.

heres mine after i did it. its like a gunmetal color. spark plug cover is bent dont tighten those down super tight or it will look like mine not so good

oh dang i un torque the head with a old fashion torque wrench and it was at 15ft-lbs before it gave off . i dunno i fear under or over torquing.

anyone has a more 100% answer? oh its for a y8 head Btw thanks for the response ehatch

OK sooo anyone else have pics of thier valve covers?? and what do you think about doing bear metal? should i gloss it over when i am done? or let it be?

what do you mean bare metal just leaving it stripped it looks ok on b series motors but not d's i have seen them both. i might be able to get you a pic of my brothers d series cover he did a black with a little gold overspray type thing.

i got that hood stand from a japanese guy, i had to go to japan to get it he said he couldnt ship because he thought the pole would fly away on its own thats how crazy this hoodstand is.
