Valve cover cleaning....Best way???
just took my valve cover off to paint it and it is a grimy mess on the inside. Now when any of you guys painted your valve covers how did you clean this?
I am planning on just spraying it with the hose and drying it real good before paint....
Will this work?
TIA

Spraying it with a hose will do absolutely nothing. You need a solvent to remove the caked on oil and dirt.
I recommend using brake/carb cleaner, if it's a bare valve cover, or aircraft stripper if it's a coated cover. Also, you do not paint the inside. I'm not sure if that's why you're cleaning the inside .... but just know .... do not paint the inside.
Either way, you should remove your spark plug seals before cleaning and replace them with new ones after you're done. An entire valve cover gasket kit (vc gasket and four plug gaskets) is about $30 brand new at Honda.

Re: (Eran)
Heh...not painting the inside....Just making it easier to work with and not have to worry about contaminants sticking to the nastiness inside...
Already got the VC gasket kit
And thanks

I'd recommend that after spraying that stuff on there that afterwards wash it with soap and water and dry it. Especially if your painting a dohc and dont wanna paint over the letters. I'd use some chap stick or a clear crayon to keep the letters from getting paint on em.
