Is this valve chatter or and exhaust leak?
At idle it sounds good but when i give it throttle it sounds like it could either be valve chatter or an exhaust leak. I already put a new gasket where the header meets the cat and it still make the noise. So today im going to go tighten where the header meets the downpipe (2pc header). If it were valve noise wouldnt it make the same noise at idle? Trying to figure out what it is.

Are you running a stock headrer? Does it have the cat in the header? I had this same noise on my Y7 a while back, thought it was valve chatter for the longest time, then one day took off the heat shiled to my manifold/cat, and found this...
Needless to say I was relieved to find the problem, and what a timesaver it woul have been if I would have lifted that heat shield earlier.

i found it i have a 2pc aftermarket header and one of the 3 screw in the middle of the 2pcs came completely out and off. Anyway there was a gaping hole so i used some blue silicon as a gasket and but all 3 screws in, just waiting for it to dry now. This is probably the source of my o2 code cause i have my o2 in the second bung after the leak. Glad to have ended this dilemma

I had a crack in the same exact place too! strange..........

This is messed up lol. I've had this sound for the longest time also. Mine sounded like a clicking sound and thought I needed a valve adjustment (which I still am going to do), but to my luck, I painted my valve cover yesterday (gunmetal with mettalic flakes ) and took my exhaust manifold heatshiled off today and found that I have a huge crack in it! I need to get some aftermarket headers...

slvrcivic97, u still runnning the stock y7 header? Man if you get an aftermarket it is a nice improvement cause the y7 header is the most restrictive thing ever i think. Even an oem y8 header flows better.

LOL, yeah. I have the y7 header right now with a big crack in it. I agree 100% with you though on a y8 header being better. I'm getting the y8 IM too. Getting an aftermarket header would be the best though. Everything is so restrictive in the y7.(Headers, Intake Manifold,etc...) But once you "unrestric" everything, it can have potential.

luckly mine doesn't have a crack, honda would replace the y8 with a crack for free because it was a factory mistake.
one q-i have a y7 with the header and cat combined, can i get a header with 2 o2 sockets and run that without a cat. will i throw a code

So if I take it up to the dealership and show them the crack, they might replace it for free? I didn't think the words "Dealership and "Free" could be used in the same sentence.

weird..i created a post the other day about the same noise...i too thought it would be valves...i removed the heat shield today and to my surprise, the same crack as in the picture except this crack is centered down toward the o2...anyhow..thanx to this thread
