Valve Adjustment?

I went out to my car the other day and started my car. My corner light was out so I went to fix it. I heard a ticking from my engine. It's gotten louder within the last few days and only occurs while the car is warming up. Once warmed up the ticking goes away. Is this a sign of a valve adjustment being needed or something else?

You do need to adjust your valves every 15k-20k regardless. Adjust them, see if the noise goes away.

Re: (Dimi)

I thought they were supposed to be done every 50k. Thanks for the tip.

Deemeetree 07-25-2004 09:36 PM

No sir, 15k-20k. Better to do it every 10k of course.

Thanks. If this is the case shouldn't I replace my cam as well(it's a D16Z6)? Any other opinions.

Last bump for the night.

Just adjust them first before you buy parts you may not need.

I'm going to adjust the valves. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else more serious.

Deemeetree 07-26-2004 07:43 AM

No, it's nothing serious. Adjust the valves, it'll go away. The only way you'll need to replace any of the valvetrain is:

1. You fucked your motor by over-revving or bending any of the valves.

2. You used some sort of nitrous and warped or cracked some of the valves.

3. Your camshaft broke to pieces.

4. You want to upgrade your valvetrain to rev to 8,500 RPM after getting it tuned.

Re: (Dimi)

what about a new camshaft, higher lift + longer duration=more power?? lol

How do you adjust your valves? Mine is doing a little bit of ticking too.

Re: (Mistamike17)

are u sure it is your valves not your injectors?

The Mista Mike 07-27-2004 12:43 PM

Re: (Soccerking3000)

How do I check the injectors?

Soccerking3000 07-27-2004 01:14 PM

Re: (Mistamike17)

well the injectors click when operating correctly, there is nothing wrong, but sometimes people think it is their valves when its not
