Default Vacuum Leak?

edited original post:

I heard this loud sound, sounded like a vacuum leak. It's coming from what I think is refered to as the charcoal canister on the firewall. After pinching the line leading from the IM to this canister, the noise stopped and my idle dropped to what i guess would be normal. Does this canister ever go bad? or could it be the thing on the line... PCV i think?

Someone let me know, i'm kinda clueless in this area.

btw its a b16a2 in an EJ2 if that even makes a difference.

So its still making the noise or it isnt? If it is, how would it be hard to pinpoint, vacuum leaks that are that loud shouldnt be THAT hard to find.

Well, its probably not a vacume leak becausee your rpms would rise up pretty high, and a vacuume leak would make a sucktion sound or a wistle, not a hissing sound. does it still make the sound when the car is off? Does it do it as soon as you start the car? does it go away, if you rev it up? Right now only thing that I can think of that will make a hissing sound is a nail in your tire (flat tire), or snow on your hot exhaust pipe , like putting water on something hot and it hisses. I can't think of any thing else hissing. Maybe some one else will know!

not all vaccum leaks sound the same.

if anything, you could just plug up the line. make sure the hose is tight on the can. next, try replacing the line. vaccum hose is cheap.

I'll see tomorrow, i'll play with the line. Today though, I pinched the line and my rpms dropped to normal. I've had an idling issue ever since i got the car, when warm the idle would be anywhere from 1000-1400 and sometimes bouncing in between. After pinching the line... alll that stopped. The leak only occurs when the car is fully warmed up.
