Default V8 guy buys 02 civic EX

Hello people,

I recently bought an 02 EX in a valiant attempt to get back in touch with my youth. I am a 29 yr. old car fanatic. I have owned countless 5.0 mustangs and even an IROC here and there dare I say. I most recently sold a 400 hp 96 ford bronco on 35" swampers. The tuner revolution has intrigued me for quite some time now so I picked up an 02 civic.

So I am wondering what direction I should go. It is my daily driver so I don't want to do anything that will put it down for any period of time, and I do want to get rid of it in a year or so for something aspirated so I don't want to get to crazy. I am know intake, exhaust are first but what else? is there other mods that are easy to install and somewhat inexpensive that you can reccomend?

Im always an advocate of getting suspension outta the way. Buy some shocks/springs, maybe camber kit. Relativly cheap, easy to do, better ride, etc. Its really up to you, how much work are you willing to put into it if your gonna sell it in a year?

Well as far as power goes, you picked a bad car to start with.

Most likely you are only looking @ a k20 swap into that thing which will be very expensive probably $8k plus.

You could go with a turbo kit and put down some decent numbers though for alot less.

If its your daily driver and you plan to get rid of it in a year anyway, I'd just do some mild suspension mods and leave it at that.

If your gonna get rid of it an a year, then why turn it into a money pit?

Do some suspension, some shoes, and a 50 shot or something. But FWIW the 50 shot would be a waste of money.

IMO....you bought the wrong civic. Should have got a 2000 or earlier one if you wanted to fix it up at all.

I agree w/ this opinion. There's no need to change anything if it's just going to be temporary. Also, by modifying it, it makes it harder to sell when you plan on getting rid of it.

man, how can go from a v8 to civic. even the fastest civic is still slow as *****.
im gonna be getting out of the fwd game and into a rwd. fwd is just too expensive to make fast.
now dont say i hate civics or anything - i own 3 right now. 2 stock, one will run 11's in a couple weeks. then im gonna sell the fast one and start to work up a stock block turbo for the cx that i will dd and still run atleast high 12's.
i mean civics are cool and all, but the stock motor's blow goats. if you wanna go faster reliabley, you are gonna have to look into a new motor (ala k20).
if i was 29 and had some money to blow i may have looked more into a rsx.
good luck!

What is the k20? RSX Block? Anyway, yeah motor swaps are completely out of the question as is turbo. I am just curious what other cheap mods can take place in addition to the intake and exhaust. Nothing over a few hundred bucks. As far as why I bought it. It was a cheap way to figure out if I would really want to drive a little manual tranny import full time. If I feel good about it I will be going straight to an STI or Infinty G35.

You're downgrading to Hondas and I'm trying to upgrade to a 5.0 Mustang. I'm looking for torque while you're getting into the "Import Scene". Heh. Funny how life deals us apples.

You are going to miss thr V8 torque. No matter what you place on your motor, if it's not built or turboed, there will be no torque no matter what. Just enough to unscrew a pickle jar.

Yea, I think my impact wrench produces more torque than my hatch...right now.

Yeah, I am very familliar with the lack of torque already but 5 times the milage of my previous car keeps echoing in my head.

Injectors huh? So if I up my injector size do I need to go with a different fuel pump, rail, etc. or can I just swap the injectors and notice a difference?

nah, no need for a change of injectors, you're not doing anything major to you car.

aem cold air intake, dc sports header, a nice lil exhaust set up, b series throttle body, and a new cam are all cheap and easy to install. your car won't be lightning but it'll definitely have a little more pep than what it does now.

DO NOT CHANGE YOUR INJECTORS! Some of the people on here are full of crap even me sometimes! haha But honestly do not change your injectors thats a waste of time if you had not already built your engine or put nitrous or turbo on there.

IMO, just drop it, put in a cheap intake, and make it a clean ride. No need for the APC lights or header or exhaust .

Anyways, I would have tried the STi, Evo, 350Z, or G35 over the '02 civic anyday...

Well anyways, as you didn't take notice but I had to leave as soon as I looked at my whatch yesterday and said that I would post more later(which turns out to be today).

I was going to say more, but had no time. But I guess their is no point in trying to explain something to you guys. So i'll let you guys give the insight.

By the way Injectors are not the most horrible upgrade, they make different sizes.

Correct.

If it's going to be your daily drive the best thing I can suggest is to just leave it be. All of this "import scene" stuff ends up breaking other items (turbos, n20, etc) and inturn emptying your pockets.

I vote just leave it as a daily driver. I know I wish I had. Having a low, loud, rough car to drive every single day is leading me to sell the thing.

BTW, welcome to the site. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
