V6 upgrade
Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of trying to lever a V6 under the bonnet of my humble civic as it is now officially a project car. Has any body done this and does anyone have any ideas other than i'm crazy or have too much money, or I'm an A*** for wanting to do this.
Its a 1993 Civic, body is OK, currently has a 1.6 vtec with auto box, any help or advice would be good.
I know i need to change obvious stuff likes suspension and brakes, anything else I should be aware of?
cheers

Re: V6 upgrade (01_CLtypeS)
I saw in an issue of super street about a civic with a v6 pushing around 1000 hp. It was a full out race car if that isnt obvious.

Re: V6 upgrade (travmantravis)
Yeah, with some know-how and fab you can jam a 3.2 from the Acura CL (I think it's the CL) or the NSX.
It's been done before, not often though - but it's a good idea none-the-less.

Yea, the CL has the 3.2 in some of their models. (others may be 3.5?)
Like everyone else has stated, its been done, but it takes a large amount of custom fab'ing work.

Price of properly running, well-suspended V6 Civic hatchback > used 1998/99 Z06 Corvette.
Just throwing that out there. Honda V6's are incredibly expensive to modify, have little parts support compared to the four-cylinders and will adversely effect the handling of your car.
But you do whatever it is you need to do to be happy Keep us updated.

Re: V6 upgrade (Archidictus)
yeah it would be very unpractical from a value standpoint. But it would also be pimp as hell. Still with the money you spend doing that you could build the **** out of a B series or something.

The only good reason to do this is to push the envelope, but when there are already LS1 powered hatchbacks it diminishes the effect of showing off a V6 powered EG. There are other high-end projects you could do that would be cheaper and more fun. Recently Sport Compact Car came out with their USCC issue and there was an Integra converted to a mid-engine layout which I thought was really cool.

I saw one for sale that had a Legend motor in it and was RWD. I wouldn't have wanted to take on that headache for all the money in the world.

K20A Civic > V6 Civic. K20A Civic > Z06. 35mpg>20mpg. What did you expect me to say, that I like Corvettes more than Hondas? More with less is the key.

I pray to god you're being sarcastic.
And if I remember I think the corvettes get ~25-28mpg. I drove a trans am to the beach one year and got 30mpg there and back. Ls1.

that would be dope...the weight of the motor will be quite heavy though.
