V POWER by Shell
Tried Using V Power By Shell ( 91 octane) and felt a BIG DIfference, I tried comparing it to TECHRON and MOBIL's 91 gas. IMO V Power is one of the best thing out there for us with 91 octane value.Try it out
Anyone using the same gas?
What's ur Opinion?
No Flaming pls.

ummm, unless you run nitous, high compression, or turbo you dont need 91 octane gas. Its a common misuderstanding that higher octane=more power, not true higher octane=harder to burn/more stable. so i dont see how you noticed a difference

honda says to run 91 or better in the 99-00 si's my point was simply that i get better mileage with shell than mobil.

VOUCH: Engine D16Y7, SRI. My engine ran a little louder, coulda been the cleaning, I dont know.
FACT: If your engine does not need a high octane like premium (such as V-power), a higher octane will do NOTHING.
This is regarding stock engine, like if up compression, up the octane.
Higher octane rating raises the flash point. What this means is that if you need premium because of your compression, and you use 87 octane, you run the risk of knock, or preignition.
ONCE AGAIN, higher that needed octane does NOTHING, no better gas mileage, no more power. If your refering to QT or Shell gas, that could be the cleaner in it, and I vouch for QT and their top tier gas.

Re: V POWER by Shell (Enjokosai)
So even if my 99 Si says "premium unleaded only," I don't actually need to use it?
and I have tried shell V-power and did not feel any differences between that and Chevron w/ techron...

Isn't Premium gas 91 octane? And 89 octane is plus and regular is 87?

Re: V POWER by Shell (chowmien)
93 is the only premium in ohio and NC (two places i live) i havn't seen a pump in NC that sells 91.... in ohio there were all kinds of cool pumps. sunoco had 86,87,89,90,91,92,93,94,96 all in one pump.... it was crazy not all sunocos were like that though. in NC i've found 87,89,92,93,94,100. 100octane is unleaded and costs 4.00/gal. i use 93 cause my b16 calls for 91+ and 93 is usually the only thing carried as a premium.

if your Si says premium, you have to use premium. otherwise, u could get knock. and if you dont, your gas mileagemay drop, lower power, or whatever.

Re: V POWER by Shell (Redline96LX)
if you throw 89 or even 87 in your b16, knock sensor will recognize, computer will retard timing and run the motor a little rich. you'll notice slightly less gas mileage and less power, the motor will also run a bit rougher. its perfectly safe to do so though, honda made sure of this cause they knew someone in the US would put crappy gas in the car. my mom's TL recommends 91+ and she uses 87.... no problems out of it.

You can advance the timing more with higher octane gas otherwise all you said is correct

I always use Shell V-Power 91 octane, but not for any power gains or anything like that, I just get way better mileage with it. Usually like 20-40 miles more to a tank with no change in driving style

Re: V POWER by Shell (MulletManRockStar)
I haven't tried the shell v power yet... but am hooked on 76.
When I used to have a V8 Dakota I was getting on average 11mpg in town. When I started spending the extra $1.00 a fill up at 76 compared to (Safeway gasoline, am-pm) I was getting on average 13.5 mpg in town. This was with 87 octane gasoline. Since I've had my hatch I have only ran 76 just because I've had such better mileage with it compared to other brands of gasoline. (not sure if you would say "brand" but whateva)
With my 1.5 motor I can bust out around 34 mpg in town and 40-42 on long trips.
Is there the Shell V Power additive in their 87 octane, and how would you guys compare it to 76's 87 octane?

just wanted to state that: "The octane level of Shell V-Power is anywhere from 90 to 93 octane, depending on the region." it's not just 91 as previously stated. It's 93 around the corner from me. thats quoted directly from their site. http://www.shellvpower.com
