V-AFC throwing a CEL?
I just got done hooking up my Apex A-AFC, and now the CEL is on and never has before. I didn't hook up the VTM wire, because I was told not to do so, if I connected that wire would that fix it or what?
Thanks

what code is it throwing?? how did you hook up the vafc?? i recently installed mine again after relocating it and i had a loose wire and it was throwing code 3 for the map sensor, car ran rich as hell for a night till i redid all the wires.. as for the vafc resetting after turning on and off the car you probably got something hooked up wrong forsure.. my vafc kept all my settings after having it dissconnected for a month so your situation doesnt sound right.. check the wires and make sure everything is correct, also hook up the vtm wire if its there sometimes its required sometimes not..

Re-check your wire job. Find out the code and you can prolly narrow it down to what isn't working right. What kinda car do you have? My car didn't lose it's setting even when I disconnected the battery so I woul dsay something is wrong.

I re did all of the wiring and rechecked everything and its running great, but I still have a CEL. but it seems to be working fine, so I think I can just live with that bright *** yellow light on all the time.

yeah just stick a paperclip into the service connector (located under dash by glove compartment), turn the car on, and count how many times and how long the cel flashes....that is then your code....then give us the numbers and we'll help you figure the code out

Re: V-AFC throwing a CEL? (BOOSTINSI)
I'm about to go out to check the code, but I have another question- will the V-AFC indicate that v-tec is on wheter or not it really is, as long as the engine speed is past the crossover RPM?

Re: V-AFC throwing a CEL? (BOOSTINSI)
Can someone explain why running the VTM wire will not Let vtec engage??
I am running the 96-98 engine harness with an obd1 conversion harness, and I also hooked up the VTM wire as per the instrustions call for (VAFC instructions)!!
Though i dont know if vtec is not working, being I have yet to get motor in agian (took out for rebuild) and i also installed VAFC while it was out!!
thanks, ERic

Re: V-AFC throwing a CEL? (rainmanEK)
well I wasn't able to check anything, because my Chilton's manual indicates that there is a unused part of the ECU where you hook up the paper clip, but I was unable to find this unused portion. BUT when I was moving the ECU, I think the harness is a little loose and it caused the engine to idle high (1200 rpm's) and the VFD display went out, but the arrow keys were still lit.
After that I simply restarted the engine and the idle and v-afc were fine and the CEL was still on

Too find the service conector. Check by where your ecu is at. Looks straight up into the dash. You will see something with a green cap. Pull off the green cap. You will see two plugs. Jump the one with only two wires.

Re: V-AFC throwing a CEL? (Evil Civic)
This may be a stupid question but I didn't read you saying anything about it. Did unhook your battery and let the car sit 10-15min? My cel came on on wensday and I just unhooked the battery for a little while. And when I hooked it back up my cel was off and car rode like nothing had even happened. Good luck in solving your problem.
