using lighter weight oil for better gas savings?
my class mate said he uses 5w 20 on his 92 civic DX, and says that its fine for the engine, and even 0w 20 will be ok. i have a 94 dx, and i use 5w30 all the time, and im just wondering if 5w20 will be ok, gas is getting over 3 a gallon and im pretty broke, so anything helps
thanks

dunno seriously, maybe the additional cost /wear on the engine is not worth the little gain there is, maybe taking **** out like dead weight and spare tires etc, new air filter, lighter fly wheel, longer transmisson, smaller wheels, scrape sound deading, etc millons of things you can do

what is wrong with filling the civic over 30? it got a 11-12 gal tank, if u can down to the bottom, it takes more than 30 to fill, the point is what is your mpg?

Yeah, that's where I'd place my money. W/ 0w20 oil your car won't be getting adequate lubrication (if ur driving a civic) and you'll wear certain parts out faster.
Use recommended 5w30.

Hmm thats odd, u should invest in doing a tune up or a valve check on your engine. My stock d16z6 w/ bolt ons gets at least 30-32 mpg
