Default use synthetic oil for man tranny fluid?

I had a '97dx and a friend told me to put in synthetic motor oil and I will get smoother shifts, I did. But technically would this cause faster wear on the tranny. would the synchros go out faster

Go to your local GM Dealer and pick up some GM Synchromesh Friction Modified and call it a day.

Same stuff, cheaper, and you dont' have to go to a dealer.

Indeed, Pennzoil does make the GM Synchromesh. But, some stores don't carry it. I need to drive 45 minutes to get the Pennzoil, might aswell go to the GM Dealer 1 mile away and get it from them.

If your local autostore has it, get it. If not, GM Dealer.

There is no need for teh Friction Modefied i your gears aren't grinding. If you are just looking for smoother shifts pick up either the regular GM Synchromesh, or Honda MTF. If your gears are grinding then go for the Friction Modefied.

Why do you say this? Is there anything wrong with placing GM Synchromesh Friction Modified in a non-fucked up transmission? I don't see the point in this statement.

IMO, place the Friction Modified so you can prolong the life of your transmission. Why wait until the synchronizers start going to place Friction Modified in there?

Why is that funny? All of the newer Wranglers come with the NV 5-speed tranny. A lot stronger than the preceeding AX-15 unit. I don't see what's funny about that statement.

I say that b/c from what I have read in numerous posts. It seems that the FM version has something in it that actually causes more friction which may result in less lifespan for the tranny, but does increase the smoothness of shifts due to the properties of teh formula. This has been debated before, and if I am wrong, then I am wrong. I personally run Honda MTF in the RSX, and the Synchromesh FM in my EG b/c it had a bad third gear grind.

Is this GM Synchromesh product different from a product called BG Synchroshift?

The DSM crowd seems to love this BG ****. I ordered mine off a DSM site. After doing a tranny fluid change and pouring it in, I can't tell a lick of a difference between this and the Honda MTF at all.

that and they love that royal purple stuff

I am about a half a mile from Slowboy Racing (one of the larger DSM mailorder companies) and they keep this stuff on stock because of the high demand

Not worth a **** in a honda

Honda MTF ONLY
GM Synchromesh is my 2nd choice.
15w-30 valvoline Non-Synthetic is my 3rd choice.

DO NOT RUN SYNTHETIC OIL IN A HONDA TRANS!!!!!!!
