Upstream Oxygen Sensor 1998 Civic DIY
I'm surprised I couldn't find any posts about this for my 1998 Civic - maybe I'm not searching right...
I need to change out my upstream (in manifold) O2 Sensor.
3 questions:
Can I use an open wrench to get the old one out, or do I need to buy one of those specific slotted offset wrenches?
When searching to buy the sensor, is there a keyword I should use to make sure I'm getting the upstream / manifold sensor, and not the 2nd one?
Any tips on where to buy a decent sensor, or ones to avoid?
Thanks.

One more question:
I'm only getting a reading that my upstream sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1). Should I go ahead and replace the downstream sensor too, or just wait for it it fail?
1998 Civic, 153k miles.

Update:
Only question now is if I need to buy the special wrench, or can I use a standard open wrench?
I'm buying these on Amazon for about $32 ea.
Upstream: Bosch 13249 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment
Downstream: Bosch 13007 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment

Update II
For upstream sensor I found a "Herko HK-336-24-336" on eBay for $16.90, free shipping; couldn't pass it up.
Going to cut the wires & use a deep socket to get the old sensor out.
Going to wait for the downstream sensor to fail before replacing.

Should have got a Denso those other two sensors are gonna last about a year if you're lucky. Honestly I'd use the 02 socket, open wrench could strip it and then you're screwed.

I bought that sensor from ebay it lasted almost a month worth the extra money for the denso like 33ish like hondapartshero said
and your gonna find that those sensors are really in there

Thanks for the replies. I'll bet you're right on both counts: If I wasn't so impatient, I probably would of taken your advice. I'm committed now though!
Will try cutting the wires & using a deep socket, not an open wrench, & will cross fingers that I get over a year out of the sensor.

Final Update:
Cut wires & used a 7/8" box wrench; sensor actually wasn't hard to remove at all. Engine was warm, and had sprayed w/ PB Blaster a few times the prior 2 days.
CEL went away after jumping blue connector. Now just hoping this cheap sensor lasts awhile.
I suppose that will close this thread.

You can rent (free) a slotted socket designed for o2 sensors at Autozone. You should have bought Denso (oem) http://www.jcwhitney.com/pn/c10479p2...64d894y1998g43

Good tip about Autozone & socket. I'm starting to like that store.
Copy the comment about Denso. Hoping I'll be lucky; so far so good.

UPDATE:
The Herko sensor lasted just under a year and I replaced it in October last year (2014) with a Denso for $40 from Parts Geek (details below).
I the Herko's it's POSSIBLE defense, my radiator has a slow leak and coolant gets blown on the engine...
(I'm hoping to replace the radiator this week.)
