Upgrading "The big 3" and wondering how much amp the stock alternator would push?
I've bought all 1/0 gauge wire, new terminals, inline fuse holder, 200amp fuse and conector rings. I read that the stock alternator is pushing around 70amps, I'm wondering how many amps it would be pushing with the 0 gauge wire installed. Should I downgrade to a 100amp fuse or keep the current 200amp ? I don't want it to blow up my battery, once I've got everything installed. Going to be grounding the battery with 1/0 gauge to the strut and to the engine block, then running a power wire over to the alternator 1/0 gauge as well with an inline fuse (200amps).

The alternator will create the same amount of current. If youre trying to run a large stereo setup and are experiencing dimming headlights, etc. you need to go to a high output alternator.

Ok, so then should I drop the fuse down to 100amp or just use the 200amp fuse I already have? If there is no harm in using the 200amp fuse, then I'll just stick with that. Then again if the stock alternator is only running 70amp, 200amp is a little overkill and I would probably be better going with 100amp fuse.

For fuses, you want it to be a failsafe. It's supposed to fail before the wiring does if you get a short or some other problem. I don't totally understand what you're fusing. The wire from the alternator to the battery?
The alternator has a power curve similar to a motor. At low speeds, it puts out little power, usually close to or less than the car uses to keep running at idle. At running speed, it will put out the rated power. If you put a smaller pulley on the alternator, it would spin faster and make a little more power faster. Or as it's been mentioned, get a bigger alternator. They put more copper windings in.
If you have a Civic with a D series motor, you should be able to put a B series alternator in. These are larger and they put out 90 amps stock. Looking at the alternator, looking at the face of the pulley, the lobes are oriented slightly different and the top one is pushed in a little. You may have to put a washer or two between the alternator and the bracket or the motor and the bracket to space it correctly. And if the belt is too small, you may need the B series one. I've put a D series alt on a B series, so this is just going in reverse, but it should fit.

Yea, I'm putting an inline fuse between the alt/battery. Just as a precaution and that's a good idea with the B series alt, I'll have to check into that.
