Default Upgrades for the d16y7?

I'm thinking of getting a 96-00 sedan as a daily. Most likely I will get an LX instead of the EX, just because there are more of them around and they are cheaper. Are there any upgrades for the d16y7? I know there are tons for the d61y8.

If I were you I wouldn't get an LX with performance in mind. First off, they're cheaper for a reason. If you want to do any mods, get an EX. It's a better platform to work with. You'll already be at 127hp with a d16y8 as opposed to 106 with the LX.

yeah, there are some good upgrades. As long as you're sticking with stock internals, stay far away from bolt-ons. Even a built D is a waste of time/money imo. I'd boost it, definately. Do some research, there are lots of helpful sites and links in the Forced induction section. Boost should be able to get you to around 170 whp on a stock D. That'd be perfect for a simple 4 door. If you can though, get an EX.

Whatever is for the EX is most likely also available for the LX.

What are you looking for?

The best upgrade for a Y7 is:
A) Boost
B) Swap

The y8 motor doesnt get 127 to the wheels, its at the crank. Its more like 110 at the wheels.
If you have a stock y7\y8, go dyno it now and see, lol.

Save a few $$, get the LX, and use the money saved towards a motor swap or boost

This I know, but it is rated at 127. I wasn't saying to the wheels. But nice of you to clear that up.

if you can't afford much or you want all motor, try building a nice y8 head for it, minime swap, camshaft, good tuning, intake manifold, boltons, etcs with the y7 block. But unless you get some good deals best bet is swap/turbo as mentioned above

exactly, its still better then the 106 at the crank (80-90 at the wheels) in the lx

op: if you are getting it as a daily and want a lil kick in the pants, just go with a low boost turbo set-up.

It's just for a daily. I have an EF that is my fun car. I just want something that gets good mpg. I'm driving a DA right now, but want a 4 door. No turbos or swaps. Gonna lower it and call it done. I just wondered if there were any cams or something minor for the y7. I'm certainly not looking for performace, but maybe a small bump in power. Shoulda made the more clear at the beginning.

If I ever swapped an lx, I would use a nonvtec b20 with an ls tranny, cause it's cheap.

not sure if anyone said it yet but Yall are forgetting the he can stay cheap wit the lx and spend anywhere from 100-1000 for a ex head...they only difference from the the y7 to the y8 is the v-tec head of the y8 really!! So just do a minime, and u will still be cheaper then buying a ex bc after that all ur missing is a sunroof and a cd player and now aday the lx u get might have and aftermaket cd player....

I thought about swapping heads. But then you need the ecu and distributor. Then I might as well just buy the ex!

expletive a mini-me. Waste of time. Get a y8 intake manifold and boost it.

a t3/t4 .60 trim on 8lbs will be a fun daily with a good tune.

If you're not looking to boost or do much for performance, thenyou might as well keep it completely stock. Cams would be a waste of money, and so would anything else as long as it's na. Just like ek forever said, expletive a mini-me. WASTE OF TIME/MONEY. keep it stock.

I'm having the same dillema...except I have a DX. I have a d16z6 available but is not sure what I have to do to install that ( I know I have to go obd1, but not sure about what else I need).

Actually, with the Y7 motor, swapping over a y8/z6 trans, Upgraded clutch (optional), and lightened flywheel will free up some horses, and make the driving experience (for a sohc) a bit more enjoyable.
EK forever guy would agree on that.

yes, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't need a new trans anyway.

I"m gonna leave it stock. No point in spending money on a sohc. D series was just meant for commuting. Thanks for the words of advice. If i need to go fast, I'll drive my ef with a b18c
