Update* How to pass Chicago emissions (OBD2)
Sup guys a while ago i made a thread about trying to pass the OBD2 test and some people were interested to see what happened so heres the update.
The car is a 97 hatch with a JDM b18 motor and a obd1 conversion. Obviously the car cannot pass with the obd1 ecu but i gave it a shot anyways and i failed.
This is my setup to pass the OBD2 test:
USDM oil pump w/ crank sensor
Plugged up a secondary O2s no cat
97 GSR ecu (OBD2a)
this setup on a 96-98 civic with a JDM swap will pass.
I tried to use the 96-98 ex ecu but it threw a code 91 (fuel tank pressure sensor) 96-98 dx's do not have this sensor, i believe 99-00 dx's have the ftp sensor and can use an OBD2b ex ecu. I hope this helps you guys out and kudos to me cuz i finally beat the "man" and passed without a cat

well if they dont look then who cares... but if they do look all engine swaps have to be the same year or newer to be legal.

Well, you're damn lucky they didn't notice you didn't have a cat. If they had noticed you'd be out a couple grand in fines.
Basically you passed because they trusted what your ECU told them and didn't check your tailpipe emissions. In a year or two when your bumper's all discolored from running without a cat they might wise up and catch you.
You never know when you'll get a guy who actually bothers to do his job to the best of his ability, instead of just count the hours until his shift is over.
