Unique wiring problems for my B18C1 into 96 Civic CX HB
hey guys... king of the newb questions is back! hahahaha
Just trying to see what I am getting into. I am looking for advise on what I should do. I bought a B18C1 GSR (1996) for a great deal. The only issue (depending on how you look at it) is that it is currently "wired" for OBD1. I have been told it is an OBD1 wiring harness from an 92-95 (I hope I am repeating this correctly). I have an OBD2 ECU.
I am just wondering what I should do. With the current wiring situation, should I just get an OBD1 ECU? Or can the OBD2 ECU be manipulated to work in this application? and yet again... or should I get a OBD2 gsr harness and plug that into the engine to allow the OBD2 ECU to run?
I am in Toronto, and the law dictates (to the best of my knowledge) that you have to swap in a same year or newer engine. I don't know if this applies to the ECU as well. I am sorry, but I couldn't find a suitable answer in the search as I am looking for recommendations from guys that know... and there is an abundance in this forum....
cheers HT and thanks alot for all the advise over the past months...

i think you either need to use your own harness and add a few wires, use an si harness, or use a 96-98ex harness to make it work on your car, and you need an obd II ecu.

Re: Unique wiring problems for my B18C1 into 96 Civic CX HB (JDMCivicEF9)
Okay, lets break it down.
The harness on that motor will not work in your car.
Hopefully, whoever swapped that gsr motor in had enough sense to use the wiring harness that came in the integra.
Unplug the harness from your motor and swap it onto the 96 gsr motor.
Both are obd2, and both will have the SAME PLUGS.
You will have to add a couple of wires for your knock sensor and vtec, find any competent "expert" and they should be able to pull it off no prob.
This is a pretty easy swap actually, you will need a couple of different brackets and stuff, no prob.

this will tell you a lot of what you need to know.

Re: Unique wiring problems for my B18C1 into 96 Civic CX HB (Plan B)
Plan B, thanks a lot. That was what I was looking for. I got all needed mounts plus other stuff with the purchase of the swap.
Sorry if I pissed some of you guys off with this post but my question was not answered in the searches hence me posting it. Sure there are wiring posts about the exact swap I am doing, but none told me anything about the existing harness I got with the GSR and if it was swappable. I am not a mechanic at all, but I am trying to educate myself enough so that I do know abit so I don't get hosed.
Thanks a lot Plan B!

a 96 gsr is obd2
anyways, u cant use the da integra harness.
u need to use ur stock harness and run 4 wires
1 wire vtec solenoid
2 wires vtec oil pressure
1 wire Knock sensor
and change the plugs on the crank fluctuation sensor, IACV and IAT
or get a 96-98 ONLY civic ex harness and plug and play, or maybe extend some wires
not that hard to do, if u have any other questions email me at ALASPIRATED@aol.com
i did the same swap in my ek

Re: (JDMTyPeRHaTcH)
Hrm, here are the important things to look at when doing the swap the shock tower connectors, and then the dizzy/injector clips/alternator. Those are the things that really change between OBD1 and OBD2.
You will need to run wires for vtec, vtec oil pressure, knock, IAB (aka secondaries, aka butterflie valves)
JDMTyPeRHaTcH seems to be pretty confident in his info, so definitly take it into advisment.
I would also get an ecu conversion harness, and an OBD1 ecu. But I am biased.
Doing that, you can eliminate the knock sensor, and vtec oil sensors with a chipped program.
