UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS??
i have a simple question ive been reading about underdrive pulleys being able to free up lost power and im wondering if its worth the extra 100 bucks to invest in it? also are b series and d series pulleys the same? thanks for the input

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS?? (redb16coupe)
aftermarket crank pulley is lightweiight and it is the only advantage.
oem underdrive pulley will free up some hp if u dont use a/c and ps. i mean cut those belts loose

I agree with you 100% especially if the motor in question is a stock Dseries. So many people waste their money on basic bolt-ons that do nothing in terms of real hp... all they do is drain the wallet and make you later realize that you wish you wouldn't have done it.

Same here... I was fortunate enough to only do I/H/E, but even then I wish I hadn't.

if u plan on boost it and make it to 230-240 and as reliable as DD . u need to build your internal engine strong

For 240 to the wheels? Stock internals are fine. 300+ you might want to start looking into forged internals. It's insurance in my book.
Underdrive pulleys are trash. Especially the crank pulley. OEM Honda crank pulleys are balanced. Aftermarket? No.

D's are reliable at 240whp? Good to know.
You can always get the ATI damper and spend 300+ lol

You could always search for a used one that is in good working condition.

They are if you don't beat on them everyday, and don't really cheap out on too much. That's at the upper end of stock boosted reliability, though. A good tune and I've seen some run for years. Others I've seen die at 220whp. I can't really say yay/nay for the entire lot of them.
I thought about getting an ATI, but realized I wasn't a baller.

Yes.
I'll explain it to you like it was explained to me. Crankshaft pullies are also known as harmonic balancers. Essentially they balance out the vibration from the engine to tolerable levels and keep it all somewhat smooth. Honda OEM harmonic balancers work perfectly with Honda rotating assemblies because that's what they're made to do.
Aftermarket pullies are just metal with ridges on it if you ask me. If you're still indeed set on underdrive pullies, get A/C and P/S. Do not get a aftemarket crank pulley.
Feel free to doublecheck this, as I could be mistaken.
