Default type r swap

I have a 2000/98 type r in my 92 eg. I have to get it refereed in cali and when i took it their they gave me a long a long list of things i have to do to legalize it. I have to run the type r ecu and i cant use a jumper harness because i have to have the obd2 data link connector inside the car also. I believe the only way for me to do this is to change the engine harness to obd2, ecu harness, and the harness on the passenger side (I think thats where the connector is but not sure)

I know its not going to be the easiest thing to do, but what problems am i going to run into doing this? Has anyone done this that can help me out? Are their parts in my civic that arent going to work after i do this?

Please any help would be awesome, i have to do this by the end of february, and their is more to

dont live in California? lol

youd probably have to get a headlight to taillight wire harness from a junkyard or somewhere and put it in your eg. which would suck lol

OBD2 integras (and some OBD2 civics) have a pressure sensor on the fuel tank, OBD1 vehicles lack this sensor and it throws a CEL when using an USDM OBD2 ECU.

cali is cool as hell, but the referee and BAR bullshit is way too much to stomach. i really give it up to cali guys going through all this, here in MD you buy a car get a saftey inspection, go to the DMV get tags, title, registration. couple months later you get a notice for vehicle emissions, and that is tested every two years, and if your car is dumped then you get a two year waiver. but from what i read on HT swaping in cali and it being legit is alot of work.

Here in New Brunswick, Canada you simply do an annual saftey inspection, emissions is included in that, and by emissions I mean the vehicle must appear to have a cat. CEL on? No problem, SRS light on, no problem. All that said it seems like if you understand what you have to do to pass california emissions (for some reason I think I know more about CA emissions than half the people from there that post on H-T) and choose a swap based around passing emissions then it isn't horrible, although I do find it too restrictive, especially the parts of the visual inspection. I can't think of a single good reason to no allow someone to use something like say a correctly chipped P28 ECU, chipped with stock USDM P30 maps on an OBD1 B16A. IMO it should be based on tailpipe emissions more so than anything else.

ya i have no idea why everything has to be the same year and everything. it should all come down to the emissions your car gives off. Passing BAR can be easy becasue i have done it before and passed with a jdm gsr, but that got stollen and i bought a 92 si with a type r from Seattle.

Their has to be more people on here with legal type r's in an eg, that live in cali.

as for the fuel tank, i am thinking i could figure out a way to replicate the signal that the sensor gives off or something.

There have been a lot of really smart guys trying to figure that out for a long time now, I don't remember anyone coming up with any kind of a real solution, not saying it can't be done, or that you wont be the one to do it, but you have your work cut out for you.

its actually alot easier than you think....go buy an obd1 single cam swap for like 500-600 bucks put it in...pass your tests...and throw the type-r back in ....couple hours labor but the fastest and easiest solution !

I would have thought it would be a more common thing than this, i guess not very many people have legal type r's in an eg.

I have a d15 sitting in my garage from my first swap, if i dont get this figured out in about 3 weeks, i am going to have to put it back in and get it smogged that way. At least it will buy me another 2 years to figure it out, but I will get this thing legalized!

This happens more often that you know^^^^^^^^^

Its not that difficult... you just have to have had your parts list together and confirmed BEFORE you jumped into it with both hands and feet. There a many BAR'd cars in Cali. Many get their car passed inspection and then do what they will because upgrades are mostly click-on, or bolt-ons that don't take long.
i live in a non-impacted county so smog certificates remain valid through the length of time you own the car. So the above mentioned swap makes sense.

I appreciate the help, but from what i understand he said that he was putting the motor in a 2k chassis, which would mean that it is already OBD2 and that is the biggest of my problems because my chassis is OBD1 and i have to change it to OBD2

Mmmm IN N OUT sounds good!
