Rebuild the B16 and call it a day. There is no need to buy a B18c5 longblock just because your B16 needs work. Money not wisely spent. If you are hell bent on a motor and want the most whp for the money then swap a B18b1 in your SI with your already existing trans then plan to turbo. IMO buying a B18c5 when you have the option to rebuild is just a waste of money and an attempt at the "I have a type-r motor factor".

160/110 (hp/tq) compared to 200/130 (hp/tq). Noticeable difference, but for the price I wouldnt make that my first choice. The B18b1 has around 140/125 (hp/tq) and for a fraction of the cost. Way way less than a B18c5 longblock. Honestly, your best best is to spend the 500-1k it costs to rebuild the B16. Its your money though.

What seems to be wrong with the head? Piston rings shot? Bad seals? Bearings?
Honestly, now that Im a little more wiser than I once was I think out my decisions and see what is best for my financial situation and for my future goals. If it were my car it could go either way. If I were on a budget I would just rebuild. If I were hell bent on spending some cash and swapping out the motor I would choose the B18b1 and go turbo or something cheaper (not by much) like a B18c1. If you do the swap you can keep your blown/junk'd B16 and sell it for some cash back. You only need a longblock because you can keep your trans.

Get the job done doing what? What are you trying to accomplish? Whats your goal with your car/build? What are you building this car for? Daily driving? Auto-X? Drag? Road racing?
You don't need to buy a B18C5 when you have a B16 to begin with. Take everybody's advice they're trying to give you. Rebuild the B16, it'll be cheaper than buying a whole new engine, and you can get the same results or better.
Think before you talk. Your questions are vague with many variables. Use the Search before you ask/post questions here.

Re: type-r or rebuild the b16 (skip.two)
To me this is a tough question....
Financially the b16 would be your best choice. Although lets talk about reliability?
From what I've seen, a rebuilt engine is never as good as a factory. Can be almost as good, but never the same...
If you can pick up a type R with good compression and leakdown, it should last a long time... the larger displacement, power, valvetrain, would be the best bang for the buck.
On a STOCK long term sense I think the type R would be the best choice.
Again it depends what your goals are with the car.
Pickup a Type R engine... and sell what you can from the b16... That is what I would do... BUT again it all depends on what you use the car for
my 2 cents

Re: (muhaMan)
i say get the b18c5 because its a better platform to build off of and ull have more torque and power right of the bat. if u rebuild ur b16 ur gonna need some serious parts if u want to get more than 200 out of it. and if u build the b16 to make 200 u just cut ur longevity and reliability of the b16 in half. b18c5 all the way.
