Type R head/LS block or LS VTEC or Type R head/B16 block? Which is Better B?
So here's the situation ... I got ahold of a fresh type r head a few months back in a trade so i went and bought a b16a block complete for like 75 bucks dirt cheap it needs to be rebuilt hone rings bearings whole nine so its been sitting till I get some time and figure out what I want to do with it.. In the meantime I'm putting a motor in this kids car who has no money so hes giving me an ef hatch and a b18b1 freshly built for geting his ek running .Heres my dilemma i now have a complete ls, so should i put the type r head on the ls block and go ls vtec or should i build the b16 and put the type r head on that? o i have a 94 del sol that the motor would go in, and the ef hatch needs to much work to get street legal so im giving it to my little brother as a project. So ls vtec or b16 type r head is where im stuck...Ideas pros and cons would be awesome.Thank you

Re: better B!
yeah, do a compression check on that ls, if its healthy runner, throw the vtec head on it for the sol. b16s have no tq. give it to your bro, so he can build a b16 ef. i wish a had a cool brother like that.

Re: better B!
Sell the b16, save your pennies and buy yourself a gsr block.
Build it, throw the type r head on, and then put it in the del sol.
Ls/vtecs are great and will run a long time if they are built correctly.

Re: better B!
If she wants an auto just get a b20 with a b20 trans.
I suppose an LS with an LS trans would work too. Not sure of the major differences in ease of install or mileage. If you're going to go auto I'd suggest just getting whichever engine you find in better condition. Either should be inexpensive.

5 speed is normally the only option. Often due to mounts, clearance issues and wiring, in this case you're kinda lucky in that there are factory mounts, the wiring issues remain though.

Auto is really a waste of time imo. Teach her how to drive a stick she'll like it better anyway.

me and a friend of mine did this once blindly for his girl and yeah it wont rev past 2k rpm or shift till u install the teggy TCM. But afterwards it was pretty cool to have a auto LS and it was peppy too. I wouldnt do it with a ls/v though cuz i hear that honda auto trannys cant really hold power. meaning they break faster wit power.
