Type-R Grill Fitment
I have a replica 96-98 Type-R front grill and, like I have heard from others, the fitment is garbage. The top screws into the rad support OK, but the bottom doesn't secure anywhere. I think it is designed to slide into part of the bumper but it doesn't do that, I have been told that I can secure the bottom by using black zip ties to secure the bottom of the grill to the rad support. Has anyone done this? Or something else that resolved the problem?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Im going to say this very nicely b/ in the past i made the same mistake....
Let me guess, you spent what, $20 on it? E-bay?? You get what you paid for...
Please, just go to hondaautomotiveparts.com or majestichonda and order the REAL 99-00 si grille, its about $130, you need the frame and the grille b/ the stock non si frame wont fit it.... You CAN use your stock hardware tho
The one you have looks cheasy, the mesh grille holes are alot bigger and it looks like ****.

Re: Type-R Grill Fitment (EJ8VTEC)
99-00 grill won't fit my ride. So other than buying an oem jdm 96-98 type-r grill, does anyone have any suggestions?

I had the same exact problem but as you may notice the lower part of the aftermarket grill has some tabs which fit into nowhere......
What i did was dremel slits into the bumper so the tabs fit and then just drilled a hole through the tab and the bumper and ziptied it... so now its a nice and tight fit...
I think you can see the fitment there.......

^That looks like great fitment. I'm still not really 100% sure about what you did though, and I would like to be more certain before I cut into my bumper, lol. Do you have any pics? Or could you explain it in even more detail? Thanks.

hmmmmmmm my grill is kinda floppy, feels like it's only attached on the top, i thought that maybe it was involved in an accident although carfax said it wasn't... but everything lines up nice, paint seems to match good, and there is the styrafoam crap between the bumper and rad support......i know when my del sol front bumper was fixed the foam wasn't replaced... eh???

Re: (Jorsher)
Had the same problem, I rigged it by putting a rag under my bumper so that it pushed up and became more level with the grill, looks just fine and you'd never know it's there.

Okay, so on the back bottom of the grill is there like 3 tabs that stick out?
On mine there was, and thats what was making the grill poke out from the bumper and not sit flush, so what i did was make note of where the tabs should fit and then dremeled it out into slits so the tabs could slide into the bumper.
But then my prob was to keep it in place, so where the slits now sat in between the bumper i drilled holes straight thru the bumper and slit and kept it attached with zipties.. which kept it snug and in place....
Any more questions feel free to ask, or just post pics and ill show you where to dremel or whatever, it would probably refresh my memeory cause im pretty sure this is the way i did it. Dont worry about the tiny holes in your bumper, no one will ever see it... i wish i wouldve taken pics of my process i guess next time i switch my headlights ill take a couple........

Re: Type-R Grill Fitment (SlepT ej6)
Thanks for your help, mine has the tabs too. I will check if the tabs hitting the bumper is screwing up the fitment, and if so I'll do what you said, thanks. Your front bumper has a little cupped edge along the bottom where the grill sits on it right?

Re: Type-R Grill Fitment (mugenpowered)
I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the process. I have the same problem. As of right now I just fit the grill onto the bumper the best I could, making sure the tabs fit into the little grove on the bumper. Sometimes the grill stays and sometimes it doesn't. It's been two weeks so far and this is the longest it's stayed.

Well like i stated earlier, take note as to where the tabs meet with the bumper and cut slits into it w/ a dremel so the tabs will now be going through the bumper and once it is like that, zip tie the tab and the bumper together to keep them in position (this is done by drilling a hole into the tab and somewhere on the little fold the bumper has in there and sliding a ziptie into both) and viola!!!
my grill never moves and ive had it on for more than a year now.........
I would take off my bumper to get some pics of how i did it but its too damn cold here in NYC...........

Re: Type-R Grill Fitment (SlepT ej6)
I hear ya, it's always raining here and it's kinda cold, or at least colder than I would like for working on my car; I live in Seattle. I'll give it a whirl, those tabs are hella small, but I do love the look with the grill.
