Re: Type R Engine (Ek9kidd)
Well if you get it from hmotors,
The b18c(itr):
$ 3999.00 Plus shipping and handling 96-97 Spec
$4500.00 Plus shipping and handling 98Spec+
b16b(ctr):
$ 3800.00 Plus shipping and handling.
So if you want the itr, it probably going to cost more then 6k, with labor and the extra parts.

Re: Type R Engine (Ek9kidd)
its expensive and a bitch. It'll never be like the car came from the factory, so i say you find a shell and swap everthing in. Type R engines can be bought for cheap, but they're pretty much all stolen engines.

Random thread hijack...I've been wondering about this for a while. How rare are the actual "from the factory" JDM type-R hatchbacks with B16Bs in them? And how much would it cost to get one?

Re: Type R Engine (Ek9kidd)
order the motor from hmotors...they're reliable and great customer service...
swap it yourself...learn about it and when something goes wrong, you'll know what exactly to do.

Mine isn't, and I sold it for cheap. Well, actually, it could have been stolen while in Japan and then sent to HMotors where I bought it from...so nevermind.

Save your money. Get a gsr and throw a b16 head on it. Then boost it.
YOu'll be much happier with the result. I promise.
ITR > GSR only by a little bro. The engine isn't that much different except for the red top, and a few hp. Plus, you'll save $1500 for other goodies.

Hm, that's a good idea but I don't know about doing a B16 head if plans are for boost.
And technically speaking, what's "a few HP" to you? Anything with a difference of any amount over 10HP is more than "a few" IMHO. Also, the ITR has a small yet noticeable amount of additional torque compared to a GSR, not to mention slightly shorter gearing, a 4.785 FD in the 98+, and comes with the small advantage of LSD.

Re: Type R Engine (Ek9kidd)
I was thinking a GSR would be cheaper to swap into mine too...
HMO Prices:
GSR $2750---->$3050 with factory LSD
Type R $4500
but..
The Type-R has things I would buy for the GSR anyway...
More Aggressive Cams
Higher Compression Pistons
Short Runner IM
4-1 Header
A shorter set of gears.
Whole lot better final drive.
LSD
Those few things are worth the extra $$ IMO. Just a thought. Unless you boost it...then you can throw all that out the door. haha.
Good luck with the choice.

a red top and a few hp is the only difference between the ITR and GSR engines? Hmm... I guess pistons, cams and a ported b16a head aren't a differences then.
But a GSR with a b16a head on it will be cheaper.

close ratio tranny,lsd, better intake manifold, bigger throttle body, better valves,springs and retainers(higher reving). just a better all out stock stock motor. but bottom line is if you cant afford it buy something cheaper.

Right. I would recommend NOT buying an ITR if you want to go boost. IMHO these less-common ITR motors should be reserved for people who want to go all-motor or just want to leave it bone stock.
Some people buy ITRs and boost them, and I'm not saying they're wrong for it. I simply wouldn't suggest it. There's a lot of more cost-effective options for boost other than an ITR. To each his own; Truly.
Speaking of that, if you plan to boost and make a lot of whp, the stock Honda LSD in the ITR tranny won't hold up for long anyway.

Re: Type R Engine (Screwtape Sr.)
i thought it was bad to booost a itr motor because u have to swap out all or most of the internals because the compression is too high and is like a waste
i was looking at some engine a guy wanted to sell me for 2000 dollers and was supposedly a type r and had a black valve cover but it said b18c

Well someone offered me $2000 when I was selling my ITR.
The JDM GSR and JDM ITR motors both say B18C on them. There are no numbers after the "C" in the JDM version. You distinguish between the two by looking at the head stamp, the intake manifold, maybe the exhaust manifold (since 98+ ITR have 4-1), and the tranny code...and, if you can, look at the tranny to see if it has LSD or not.
