Two Bad Transmissions??? (HELP)
I'm posting this thread to help out my cousin. Well his car is a 96 coupe, LS-V. One day he launched his car and that was it. We heard what sounded like a pop. Push it to the driveway. Okay here is where I'm not sure whats wrong anymore. First we though that the transmission was bad so he found a use one. So we drop the transmission and replace it with the use one. For the couple of minutes it went in gear and grab fine back and fourth about three to four feet just in the drive way. But then I heard something and damm, same problem. When we're in gear say first the car doesn't stall out with your foot off the clutch but still in first gear. It seems like it's in neutral but we do hear what seem like a humming noise. Almost like grinding but not quite like metal on metal.
Okay, so we think it's the clutch. A week later we drop the transmission again but this time we installed a new clutch with throw out bearing. Got everything back on and for the first couple of minutes it went in gear fine and grab fine. My cousin got out of the drive way and put it into first and bamm same thing. The cars in gear the motor just idles with a humming noise. This is where I'm stuck. How could two different transmission have the same problems. We were thinking it's the flywheel. Could the halfshalf cause this?? Anyone advice anyone. Thanks

i'm assuming you have an axle that keeps popping out?
shouldn't be that hard to diagnose. put the [freak]ing car in the air and see where the noise is coming from. use a screw driver and put the handle in your ear, put the tip where your trying to find the noise
a stethoscope works better

It was a used tranny. My cousin bought one used. I forgot to say that the second time drop the tranny we replaced the driver side axle, and still the same problems.

really sounds like your not getting the axle in the transmission all the way. if its not in right it will come out and the car wont move. make sure theyre locked in and pull on them to make sure they wont fall back out. ive had mine fall out by not putting them in right, and ive snapped a few. i would start there cause i cant think of anything else it could be unless you broke something the first time and overlooked it when you changed the transmission.

Re: Two Bad Transmissions??? (IN VTEC)
The driver side axle was replaced the second time we drop the tranny. Does anyone think it could be the flywheel or halfshaft??

i really dont see how a fly wheel would cause your problem. what do you mean you replaced the axle? the axle and half shaft are the same thing.
try pulling the boot on your slave cylinder back and have someone push your clutch in and out to see if the hydraulic system for the clutch is functioning properly. did you unhook the line to the slave cylinder? people have a habit of doing that when pulling the tranny and its not necessary.
