Turbo vs N/A
I know this is an age-old Honda question, but I want to know what everyone's opinions on turbo'd cars are, vs. built n/a cars. I know that it is more expensive to make an N/A car go as fast as one that is turbo'd, but I don't really care that much about speed. What I really care about is how fun it is to drive. I know that it is fun to rev an engine to 10,000rpms, and have it make it's peak power at 9k rpms. However, I also know that it's also really fun when the car suddenly puts you in the back of your seat when you reach 3,000rpms. Plus a turbo is actually faster, and quieter. I dunno...somebody help me out. I wanna go CRVtec if I stay all-motor, but with a turbo, I'm thinking a normal CRV setup would be just as good when you're running 20psi.

Pesonnally, I think a turbo set up will cost more if you do it right. You should build your motor to handle the boost.
example w/ D16Z6:
N/A.....get a motor($900) and build it($3400) = $4300
Turbo...get a motor($900), build it for 12+psi($3400), buy turbo($3000) = $7300
Just estimating on N/A price. The turbo price was a quote I actually got.

20lbs boost? thats serious **** man..thought u just wanna have a bit fun cruising now and then..make sure the motor is build up good to handle boost..ive seen improperly tune d motors blow with just 5lbs boost..another less popular alternative is a jackson blower..give u 6 to 9lbs boost without any mods need d to ur motor..i like it cuz uve got a constant flow of power at hand all the time

Re: Turbo vs N/A (deepnite)
Yeah, 20psi is pretty high, but I've seen a lot of companies that build blocks that can take up to 40 pounds, so it's all relative I guess. Anyways, I'm really not sure how much boost I would be running (still in the early phases of planning), but if I had a turbo'd EG hatchback, I'd want 400-450hp from it. Also, what motor is best turbo'd? I've heard that high-boost Hondas have VTEC disabled...does this mean that an LS or a CRV engine would be a better choice than a GSR or Si, since they are already running without VTEC? Sorry, I'm sure that this is a n00b question...but I'm hoping it is really basic stuff to some of you, so I can get this stuff figured out. Thanks

Best motor to Turbo is a GSR motor in my opinion. You can get 400-450 out of a good built reliably tuned B18C1. LS turbo's are good because the motor doesn't cost nearly as much as the GSR but you have to run way more boost then a GSR to get to your goal of 400 hp.
Have you tried searching on this. Also reliability doesn't mean dick when you start molesting the motor. Go boost for ultimate power and go N/A for slightly less headache and bragging rights.

as fas as the vtec being disabled......ummm no. the only time i ever heard of this was from TOO on "their" supercharger....so no. get a vtec motor (at least a 1.8>...
a crvtec fully built and evething that goes along w/ it is gonna be very expensive i know first hand see my sig....

in my opinion i say go with turbo just cuz i have one and the sound of blowoff valve going off is so addicting...but all motorwill be a lot more reliable and not have to worry about blow ur engine up...but even with built engine, revving at 10g 's still bad for ur car

Yeah reving to 10k rpm is bad especially for a street driven car. And that 20lbs of boost is way too much for a street car. I thought you said you didn't care that much about speed. If you want a fast eg, I say go with a turbo b20 running 8-10 psi , that should be fast enough around 13 sec 1/4 miles.

Re: Turbo vs N/A (starang w0ndah)
those prices a got were from Maxx Auto Works in Federal Way. One of the best shops around to build a motor too. http://www.maxxautoworks.com and I'm not saying you have to run 20psi everywhere all day, just saying for a build that can hold it.
