Default Turbo Questions (boost)

Does anyone know how much lbs can go through a 96' 1.6L SOHC (non-vtec) safely maybe even pushin alil bit......ofcourse gonna go for a nice small turbo not a big one since it is a baby engine but just lookin to have some fun wit it............also preference what do u think is a better choice either port and polish head to gain like 50+ hp for about $200-500 or get a turbo kit for about 1g and maybe push more then that through the motor safely if possible

first off, you will never get 50 hp from a p and p head, secondly psi has nothing to do with what the engine can handle. Different size turbos will need + or - psi to get the same hp goal. Go read some forced induction threads.

ITS ALL IN THE TUNE

Quoted for truth.

No, you will NOT get that much power from porting and polishing. Hell, N/A on a D-series, it might even hurt you.

PSI, as he states, has NOTHING to do with what the engine can handle (well, it does, but it's easier to say it this way). Set a horsepower goal, and then look at the efficiency map of the turbo to see if you can safely reach that power goal (to learn how to read maps, go to turbobygarrett.com and look it up). 175whp is a VERY reliable setup, and will give you a nice bit of pickup. If you want more, you can turn the boost up until you get around 220whp and still be reliable, but I wouldn't push it any more than that.

With regards to reliability, it's all in the tune... However, there are MANY people that have been running turbo D16's for 2+ years, 50k+ miles, etc. A good tune will make your car just as reliable as it was before.

My advice, shop around for a used Greddy kit.
