I would just go on the marketplace and to junk yards and piece together your own kit because you will spend much less and have better results. But yes adding a turbo to your sohc will be a great alternative to doing an engine swap.

*sigh*

Nobody can tell you what's better for your car...

A swap relies on all motor, in the world of 4 bangers, forced induction (turbos and superchargers) apps are a lot more bang for your buck. So if you get a B16 swap maybe you'll be putting down 138whp. Though if you spend 1500 or 2k on a turbo system and tune you can make 198whp on your blocks stock internals.

In my opinion boost is better. You can't push ur D much over 200 b/c the stock internals can't hold much more in terms of power. Also, buy a wideband O2 sensor, and learn how to tune it yourself. PGMFI.org is your friend, learn how to tune it, get it chipped, get a chip burner, and tune it .

Use a chipped P28 w/ an OBD-IIb > OBD-I conversion harness or Hondata to tune though, don't use a FMU, waste of money .

As for what turbo? Well I'm more of a Greddy fan, but Edelbrock makes really good **** and has been around for a bitch of a long time. There's a site around here that sells greddy drag kids (everything minus intercooler) brand new for your car for 1500 bucks. Not a bad deal. Though for low boost applications a lot of people prefer to shop around, search market places, etc.

Go to http://www.homemadeturbo.com.
http://www.turboD16.com
http://www.d-series.org

A lot of people assemble their own turbo kits with old saab and DSM equipment (injectors, turbo), get a custom flange welded on for the downpipe, and buy your IC off whoever..and you're just a tune and some piping, and some other small **** (like oil feed lines) short of a full kit.

Piece it together, it's cheaper, you'll appreciate it more, and you can bend the kit to what you want, not just "what it comes with."

definitely. if those are your two choices, edelbrock all day. it's more complete than the greddy.
