Hey so im geting ready to buildup my block so that i can put a turbo on it. I would like to get some where around 300hp out of it. Im just wondering if i will need to do anything other than buy pistons and rods if im gona put 15psi of boost to it. Im a noob but my dads been working on cars for 40 years. I guess im looking for an un-bias oppinion and advise for this build. also if i do succefully get 300hp out of this what am i gona need to do to the drivetrain so that i dont destroy every thing.

Hey best of luck, im planning on pushin 300 to 350 with 10 to 20 lbs of boost on a z6. Good rods and pistons will help you, and like^ said, use good studs. Are you doing and head work?

get low compression pistons, CP's or Vitares
beefy rods, eagles or manlys
ACL bearings
depending on condition of engine, id recommend resleaving but it isnt necessary.
def arp headstuds as the oem headbolts tend to let the head lift up under load.
then you wil need atleast 440cc injectors
fuel pump
and a very good tune
id recommend a new clutch kit from exedy or act but the stock transmission should hold up find pending how you drive. maybe look into an lsd down the road.
you have alot of research to do and learn before you buy anything. personally id invest in a nice brake system upgrade, doesnt have to be a kit, and much stiffer suspension and tires. no point to having power if you cant put it to the ground.

You need a an aftermarket clutch capable of holding far more power than your stock one, I'd go with LSD motorsports or similar, one capable holding 250-285ft/lbs of torque. Also need to get your stock flywheel resurfaced.
Need lower compression piston/rod combo, hone and balance block, 550CC injectors, a 255lph walbro fuel pump, ARP head studs, and a traction bar you'll have lots of wheel hop. It would be smart to get a boost and oil pressure gauge (digital) as well.
Optimally you'd also get a Quiafe LSD setup for your tranny, but that's quite pricey.
Get a good street tune from a reputable tuner (very important)

So far all i have considered is
SRP pistons 9.1:1 450.00
Eagle H-beams 350.00
ARP head studs 100.00
For the engine block itself.
I figure ill just piece together a turbo kit myself. i don't want to buy one. One of the bundled kits you find online.
What else do you guys think i need to get 300 HP out of this engine besides just the turbo kit? What kind of head work if i need it?
My Dad picked up a lightweight flywheel and aftermarket clutch. The car this is going in to is a 97 civic 3door that used to be home to a turbo'd b18c1 at one point. the guy i bought the car from kept the engine but other than that its in pretty good good condition. no scratches on the paint, interiors intact, its been lowered with coil overs, and has mirror tinted windows.

most of that kinda stuff my pops can get.I need to get a nice radiator though for sure. What needs to be done to the head and will the stock crankshaft be able to handle 300hp if i can achieve it. Why would i need a new intake manifold? And the guy who had the car b4 left the interior in pretty good condition so im not going to spend any money inside it

its not necessary to pnp the head. if you upgrade the cam, the specs are gunna tell you to upgrade the valves n springs also.
i went with a zex59300 cam for my z6 and upgraded to crower valves/springs/retainers and milled the head. can easily break 300whp wo worrying about air flow rate.
dnt forget restrictive exhaust piping and IC piping will also limit power.

Re: turbo D16y8 build need advice
so you're putting 15psi to make this power goal....
put up a post like that in the FI forum and you'd get chewed to pieces...
just a tip... the power you will achieve on 15psi varies widely depending on the turbo selected...
do some more reading in the FI forum, and see what other guys are running... if you have the money, a gt28 series provides a nice powerband and won't choke out up top...
good luck...
