Default turbo d (ninja) versus b series motorswap

im using my car for daily driving, some canyon runs, and slight track use, and strip use. do you think turboing my y7/y8 mini me will perform as good if not better than a b 16 or gsr.

im gonna run a .42/.48 turbo, crome tuning, with a smic, 2.5 inch downpipe, spoolin manifold...

I believe it would. Depends on how much boost you run, but I'm sure even 6 pounds would give you more horses and torque. Have you tried searching? i'm sure i've seen a few similar threads on hear. People have mixed opinions on the subject usually. Depending wether your a B or D series fan.

It mostly comes down to tuning, but i'm going to get some ARP head studs before I boost, thats for sure. Look through some of the ninja posts. Just search for d16 turbo and there is a mountain of information.

youd definately have more power, no ques about that. If tuned right, itd be much better that a n/a b series.

If you wanna boost bigger than 9PSI thats when you need to upgrade pistons, rods, sleeves, ARP head studs, and fuel pump.

vitara pistons, eagle rods, arp rod and head bolts. boost that biatch 10+ w/ a tuning program. vafc is ok but youll see bigger gains from an odb1 conversion.

but remember to price it out.

injectors
pump
pistons
rods
bolts
possibly oil or water pumps
tuning software + turbo parts + motor

If you have the stock y7 tranny buy a y8 tranny now.
Before you do anything else.

Honda oil pumps are one of the best in the auto industry, well enough to support 300whp on a d16Y8

Either everyone in here runs some REAL crappy turbo setups or skips out on the tuning completly. All this talk about how you can take out a stock 99 Si. Whoooopty! 99-00 Si's are slow as *****. Then we have the "I can take out a stock Type S", joy, you beat a high 14 second car. Seriously people, a properly setup turbo D should EASILY be in the mid 13's.... so why are we comparing these things to 15 second cars like its some kind of accomplishment?

i think the main argument was that a cheap, turbo d16 could take a 2000 si. which basically says that the turbo d16 would be a better choice than a expensive engine swap for his power goals. many people underestimate the D. they can be made into pretty impressive engines.

check out d-series.org if you want to see what a D can really do. (theres a 450+hp D in there somewhere)

the decision should be based on .. how much power do you want? and where do you wanna stop ..

i mean i really respect that.. the time, money, and effort put into it .. but the money he/she put into the motor he could of easliy got a B swap .. i just believe if your looking for anything above 300whp you should really look into swapping a B ..

And this right here is the main motivation people use when building up a D series. Everyone thinks they suck. Everyone jumps the B series bandwagon...

Vitara pistons will make your car sound like diesel. They create too much clearance between cylinder walls and pistons. Plus they are full floating.

Boost is nice, but you will have issues if you plan on running it at the track (especially slow corners). Boost creep and instant torque is going to make it impossible to go thru those corners. Turbo is nice for the strip though. If you still decide to boost it, invest some money into LSD (maybe OBX cheap, but I heard people are having issues with splines twisting and not letting the axles come back out) it will greatly improve launching and the corner exits.

That "issue" was resolved with the second generation OBX LSD's.

im kinda confused by this comment .. im not hating on Ds by no means (points to sig) i myself am in the middle of my build up .. 220-250whp will fit my needs very well and is still a very streetable car .. and thats what i want .. i was just trying to explain the situation ..
