What the hell does that mean? Is it still blowing blue/white smoke with the turbo off or not?

oh my god
you took the charge pipe off?
apart from having a blown headgasket and/or piston rings you have now destroied your turbo.

so you are just idling it with no charge pipe?
good, yes its probably rings or headgasket, i would do a leakdown test ASAP.

I think you just need to change your head gasket and it should be OK then...You don't have to trash the car just because of that. It will fix it....

no, never ever just start replacing parts
diagnose the problem, then fix it. dont take blind guesses.

If you keep driving it, it won't be long. That little leak will turn into a big leak, at which time your engine will try to compress coolant instead of air/fuel, and let's just say it won't be pretty.
I would just change drain your coolant and install a new head gasket. Why throw a rod when a cheap gasket + replacement coolant is all that's needed to fix it?

I know that the cylinder walls suck *** for boosted applications. Oh that and the ECU mods that are needed. Those two alone should be enough. Ringlands anyone?
