Tuning Ideas for Mini Me
I have a Y8 head for my 95CX and I was planning on doing a mini-me swap. However, I am a bit curious about tuning options for it. I know I could just do a P28 and call it good but I am wondering about just doing my stock P05 with a Vtec controller to engage VTEC.
My thinking is that going to a P28 will require different injectors and maybe even the Si style fuel rail etc.
The question is: Will the P05 with the VTEC controller work and be a safe tune etc or will the timing and fueling be all off and run lean on the top end because of the increased compression? Even an OBD1 USDM P28 might not be right as it is lower compression than a mini me. Thoughts, has anyone done something similar? I am thinking of running a piggyback as well, VAFC or TurboXS DTEC fuel computer.

the problem is that when vtec engages it flows way more air, w/ the p05 the fuel maps wont change so you will be getting 70hp worth of fuel, thats not good. a stock p28 isnt best for you either, i would go chipped and run a y8 bin.

That is what I was afraid of, however that does not really answer my compression issue, I am thinking I need some sort of tuning, piggyback at least, hondata or crome at best.

Just get a P28 and get it chipped with crome/uberdata/ etc. that are free and you are set. Surely there will be someone near you who knows how to tune and since it is not going to be making a lot of power it wont be too bad to tune.

Re: (94ex-vtec)
I do sales for a tuning shop that does subarus and our tuners about the best in the country so, getting it tuned is not an issue, what I use to tune it is. I might just send it off, looking at phearable to chip a spare p05 I have. Anyone know about them? Also, will a Z6 timing belt work with a B8 block and Y8 head? Thanks.
