Default Troubleshoot THIS!! HAHA... no. =(

So, I have a friend with a 93 GSR and his car starts, but then it dies out about a few seconds later. We've tried the Main Relay, spark plugs, and jump start to no avail. When he gives it gas while trying to start it, it will die out even faster. No CELs either.. we're running out of ideas. Is it possible that it could be distributor related even tho the car still starts?

fuel pump can be bad or can be a bad fuel filter .... do a pressure test on the fuel and go from there ... also as the other guy said check the ground on the thermostat housing

hmm.. well recently his car got broken into and they stole his ecu and cut the plugs as well. so he had to get another set of plugs and get them all wired back together. the shop he took the car to said that they triple checked everything and that it was all correct. but i'm gonna probably go quadruple check these two plugs now that you mentioned it.

we thought it was ignition related too so we tried holding the ignition slightly passed "ON" to see if the car would stay on, but it wouldnt.

when the car would start, the revs would jump to about 1500rpm like normal, but then a second later it would drop to about 700-900rpm and finally shut off.

note: his car did not have any problems prior to his ECU being stolen. would it be just so coincidental that his fuel pump has gone bad when his ECU got stolen? lol

Isn't the GSR a B18C1?

Anyways, definitely check the harness and connectors. Most shops get the job done no matter if it's ghetto-rigged or not. You never know how they wired it or if it was done properly.

fuel pump or the filter as stated above. also make sure all your grounds are good even though if they aren't your car usually wont start but it's worth a shot. Basically anything you haven't checked, check. Good luck

you should try and see if you can keep it running with starting fluid by spraying in the throttle body [a little at a time] if you can then you no its something with fuel
sounds like fuel pumps dying but you never no it could be anything if the car was hacked up

I'll bet the wiring is wrong since there were no probs until the ecu was stolen

this kinda happend to my car. the problem is that engine is loading ( or getting too much gas to where it cant burn it all, basically flooding.) all i had to do is just kinda keep the revs up and it was ok. now its fine it just sometimes happens. it could be injectors or fuel pump check anything fuel related.

Ignitor sounds good to me, too. Mine did things like this when mine was going out.

I had trouble finding JUST an ignitor for sale, so I bought a new dizzy.

If it is the ignitor, would the plugs still spark?

I wonder if you got the right ECU. It sounds like it starts up fine but either something is telling the ECU to give the wrong amount of fuel or you have the wrong ECU for the car.

Does the alternator work?

Is there gas in the tank?

Fuel filter?

Fuel pump?

Is the firing order correct?

Is the ignition timing correct?

There are alot of things that could cause that.

Is there gas in the tank? yeah, about 40%

Fuel filter? filter is new

Fuel pump? havent tried that yet because it requires dropping th fuel tank on a DA.. so if all else fails.. fuel pump it is.

Is the firing order correct? yup

Is the ignition timing correct? it was set to stock before all this happened and we havent messed with it since. the car wont stay on long enough for me to check the timing again
