Default Troubles with putting an automatic ECU in a manual car?

Hi,

I just purchased a manual '92 hatchback civic. Problem is, it had check engine light on, but the guy told me it didn't matter because everything was working correctly. I bought it, and shortly after I managed to pull the CEL code out of the ECU.

I checked on the ECU thread and I received code 19 which is "Automatic transmission lockup control valve". I was shocked since I own a manual car. I shortly discovered after that the guy put a automatic ECU in a manual car.

So my question is, what happens if I leave the ECU as is, in the car? Do you recommend me to buy another one or reprogram the current one ? What's your opinion on this?

Thanks for your help greatly appreciated :-)

There is nothing wrong with having an automatic ECU. You may throw a few automatic CEL's, but that's it, nothing that will adversely affect your performance.

Just convert the auto to a 5 speed ecu. There is a write up. And i belive is in the FAQ section.

Thanks a lot guys for all your replies. I will leave it as it is right now, I have other more important things to invest my money on for the moment on my car, if I want to go through the winter!

Thanks again!

P28

Cut jump RP18 and add a jumper across RP17. Thats whats converts the ECU from Auto-Manual.

Agreed, I bought a 92 SI that had an EX auto ECU in it and threw the same code. I did the auto to 5 speed conversion to the ecu myself and fixed it. hope that helps.
