Default Trouble with cam timing and timing in general.

So it's time for the dreaded smog check, in here old San Diego, Calfornia. So while on my tune up, i am check the timing marks. The cam gear is not align with cam indacation point, i belive it's off 1 or 2 teeth off. Also i have been searching in the online .pdf service manual for a picture of the crank pulley timing marks. Can't seem to find a picture of it... So i can figure out which mark means what. Also would I probably fail smog since the cam is off just a tooth....

Also can someone display the picture of which mark is what on the crank pulley.

i know there is a ..... (white, red, white) and then a white very far from them.

yes and I used the search option.
oh.. motor is a sohc

when you're setting the cam timing (engine off), use the single white mark. That's TDC. When that's lined up the cam gear/gears should also be at TDC

The triple mark is for ignition timing and is 13 BDTC or whatever the number is for your particular engine....obviously you'll need a timing light for that. (engine running)

make sure to check ur bottom cam gear if you think it is a few teeth off.. this means u need to take ur crank pully off and line the lines up on ur oil pump..

no you don't....you can just loosen the tensioner, pull the belt off, put the crank at TDC, then put the cams at TDC, then put the belt back on.

You probably don't have to worry about cam timing at all... It doesn't get out of time unless something drastic happens

Just set ignition timing, you'll be fine.

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but i have the same problem with my d15. I was trying to line up my cam gear and crank pulley with the timing belt but every time i though it was lined up when i tensioned down the bolt it was always a few teeth off. I have tried every way i could to make them line up, and i still can not get them to line up together. Now i think i might have messed up the alignment with the oil pump and the crank pulley from all those turning of the crank pulley and timing belt. Is that possible? i need tp start over can some some one explain to me what to do. I always thought once the crank pulley is line up ( the line mark) and the cam gears are line up just tension the bolt down and your done.
