trouble with axles

Default trouble with axles

ok i have taken the axle nut offi have taken the cotter pin and nut off the lower control arm but it wont budge from the strut!! any suggestions?

Put the axle nut back on half way and smack it with a hammer.

I fear hammer damage. Instead I use the recommended ball joint separating tool:

Look online and in your newspaper for a general 20% off coupon from Harbor Freight Tools. Also be sure to grease the tool as shown in the diagram I posted.

im always skeptical about tools from harbor freight i have had more than one break first try

I understand. I have not had any significant problems with HFT tools. In addition, they offer lifetime warranties on hand tools. I'm cheap, so HFT is a candy store for me.

yea they do have some cool tools whether they are good or not :/

I've also separated ball joints with a Pitman tool. If you have the proper sized tool, it works fine, though sometimes the inward pointing tabs are too thick to fit under the ball joint boot.
