Default trip to the twisties gone bad :(

well i went camping this weekend, and i pushed my ej1 through the twisties, and it did great the way up. first rain so i had a bit of sliding around but it was awesome. i didnt start my car all weekend and it was left in the cold all weekend. this morning i went out to warm it up, and i noticed there was a lot more white smoke coming from exhaust. but i thought, it's like 40 degrees out, and the motor's pretty cold, i thought it was pretty normal and there was no way i should be burning water. got it up to standard temperature and on the way back, it died on me. after about 2 miles going uphill on the twisties, i smelled a distict burning smell so i pulled over. i opened the hood, and everything seemed normal but i still smelled the burning smell. decided that i'd check it out when i got home, tried to start the car, didnt start. waited 20 minutes wondering what to do. Told my buddy to try to start it so i could see if it cranked, and it started.

my question is, does anybody know what is wrong? the motor is pretty much completely stock d16z6 with a j's intake. it's lowered and a lotta bars in it but that's it.

it ran perfect after the stop all the way back for about 20ish miles.

i think it might still be burning coolant, i had to refill it twice since i flushed it last year

You shouldn't be burning coolant at all... What does your oil look like? Other than changing my coolant, I haven't lost a drop of coolant in over a year. If you are losing some then there is a problem.

IMO, even if it is that cold outside and you are ascending up a hill, beating on your car and keeping it at high revs, you could quite possibly run the car extremely hott and out of coolant, the smell you smelt was probably burnt clutch, brakes, among other things...that'd be my guess.

Headgasket? Like someone said above, how does your oil look? Oil in coolant or coolant in oil or overheating?

both coolant and oil look normal

my intial guess was the smell was coming from the brakes too because now they're squeaking and in need of some resurfacing
