if its a single cam, d16z6 you have a Si, and VTEC model is the DOHC b16. They both have vtec so it can be a little confusing if your not familiar with hondas

It's pretty easy, but trims mean different things on different generations and in different countries..

The S model is similar to the civic LX model.

The Si model is similar to the Civic EX model.

The VTEC model is similar to the Civic Si model.

An EG1 is a Civic del Sol with a 1.5L SOHC engine.

An EG2 is a Civic del Sol with a 1.6L DOHC VTEC engine.

An EH6 is a Civic del Sol with a 1.6L SOHC engine (VTEC or not).

Just because your VIN is ___ doesn't mean your engine code is ___ though.

Your VIN is all over your car, plus on your registration, etc.

The engine code is on the front of your engine block. Look to the left (US passenger side) of the header and you will see a small flat surface angled up. On that surface there is an engine code of letters and numbers.

As another point that I saw nateb22 mention earlier in the thread, some D16Z6 engines say VTEC on them and others don't. All USDM '96-'00 D16Y8 (EX) engines don't say VTEC on the valve cover. If I recall, the Canadian 1.6EL D16Y8 engine does say VTEC on te valve cover though.

A valve cover not saying VTEC does not mean the engine does not have VTEC.
