Default Tried searching: D15z1...what exactly does it/does it not share with D15b?

I want to do a turbo D series.

I noticed I've got a d15z1 currently.

I know I'll need to swap transmissions, but other than that, what exactly seperates the z1 from the likes of a vtec d15b? Is it more than just a vtec head? Are there differences inside the block?

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible for me to do a mini-me or whatever on my current block and then turbo, or if I should just save up and fork over for a JDM 15b, or a Z6?

I've tried searching, but I haven't found anything that I'm particularly looking for.

TIA.

well you should remember that with the minime, your compression will raise.

and it wont be as easy to run a turbo setup on a high comp engine.

you want that low comp so you can run more boost.

What will it raise to? I can't even find what the c/r is now.

As far as the block goes, what are the differences in the z1 block from the JDM d15b?

the rods and pistons are different. The z1 has dished pistons, which with a mini-me setup will actually create a low CR, somewhere in the neighborhood of 7.5:1. The rods in the z1 are similar to the z6 in length (if not identical, can't remember right now). As far as the actual block, I am almost certain they (d15 blocks) are all identical, its just the stuff inside that differs. Check my sig. under the d series piston comparo, there is good detailed info there. Hope this helps.

BTW, the stock CR on the d15z1 is 9.3:1

Rods are the same between the D15Z1 and D15B. The main differences is the pistons and the VTEC vs. VTEC-E head.

Both D15Vtec motors use 137 mm long rods, but they are not as string as normal D16 rods.

it doesn't have the best R/S ratio at 1.62, there is a D series motor that has a 1.8x R/S ratio from the factory.

That answers a lot of the questions I had, guys. Thanks.

Does anybody know what the HP limit is of the stock D series bottom end? I guess stock for stock the z6 would be the stouter since Mista Bone says the rods are stronger?

Are there any manufacturers of forged internals for any of the D series?

Yes, there are actually a few. Eagle, Crower, CP pistons, SRP, JE, AEBS, among others, all have d16 applications.
