Basically, it was a real biatch. Me and my friend were doing the rear passenger side, and being the Honda noobs that we are it (and lack of right tools) it took us a nice 3 hrs just to take it all apart. Well, turns out my rear shoes didn't need to be replaced, but might as well do it since we got the bitch open so we begin replacing them.

Everything was going well until we tried to put the drum back on the hub. It wouldn't clear the new shoes. The new shoes are in the phucking way of the drum. My car is spending the night on a jackstand. I'm thinking I might've reversed one side of the adjuster bolt, and I know we did all the springs right so... Anybody have any suggestions?

BTW, getting the hub cap off to expose the 32mm nut to remove the 4lug was a the hardest part. Grrrr.
FYI:
1) car is a 98 dx hatch (hence my name)
2) the ebrake is off.
3) we tried moving, compressing the shoes together. . . no dice.
4) I never put my foot on the brake pedal nor touched the brake lines 'cept for the ebrake one. Didn't see any fluid leaks. So hopefully we won't need to bleed them. I hate bleeding em, such a pain in dee azz.

OK heres the problem.. remembered when you put the shoes in.. there was this thing that connects the shoes together.



Check out part numbers 16 17 and 18 compress all those by moving part #17. to where you wont see any threads on the part 17.
Now try again.. and just some FYI you didnt have to remove the center piece.. just part #4 comes out and you work around the center part #1.

we tried compressing i.e. screwing that (adjuster bolt 16-18 pieces) all the way till no thread shown but it still didnt work. My guess is that I may have reversed piece 16 by accident during installation. I hope that was the issue.

Oh my God. If I ever have to mess with that, I'm just gonna swap disks in. Good luck, man.

Now here is a common problem.. you have to align the top of the shoes with the cylinders and the bottoms with the seats there. Also did you get the adjuster in right also? part #20 and the attachments? you can try to wiggle it in also. that helps

Did you compress the the pistons? #10/11. Those need to be pushed in all of the way. try that.

your becoming such a post *****, but like you said i would rather switch to rear disc then put new shoes on the rear

got it done. thanks for your help Batuking, your comments saved us. we had to bleed the system again, sucked. also now the brake handle is looser, but we tested the ebrake and it seems to work fine. thx all. :beer;

this is a bitch dude as I am sure you are figuring out. YOu really just have to monkey with everything and it will all eventually line-up. I did this alone on my hatch and it SUCKED. good luck persistance pays in the end.

As they say . your first one is a bitch then after that they become easy and FYI.. next time if you have a friend there you can just crack the bleeder screw alittle bit so as you compress the cylinder the fluid comes out then when you get to the bottom have your friend close the bleeder screw so you dont have to bleed your system ..
