i was trying the washer trick on my rear right side of my car today and the bolt head came right off..!!!

anyone know or suggest how to take the thing out..??

EDIT:heres another thing that i want to add though...

i actually did it twice...

the first time, i used bolts i bought on the left side and used 3 washers, those went in super good....
on the right i used stock ones with 3 washers cuz it was taking too long with the bolts i bought...

turns out, there was still choke camber on that thing so i went to put in 2 more...

again, left side was cherry, after adding 2 washers... but i couldnt use the stock bolts on the right because the bolt was too short for 5 washers so i had to use longer ones... thats when it broke...

i tried that... and its not budging one bit...

is there like some sort of machine to do it or something..??

If you have room i would try this first, take a dremel (if you have one or something like it) and flatten out two sides of the bolt. Then use VICE GRIPS to try and turn it. I tried with pliers for a while on a header bolt where the head broke off like yours did and i couldnt get enough leverage. Vice grips ended up working for me. Other wise you may have to drill it out and retap

stud extracter if there is enough thread left? double nut it? reverse drill bit if it is pretty much flush, if worst comes to worst just drill and tap it

You can also try cutting a flat blade screwdriver slot into the top with a saw or a dremel. You can get adapters that let you use a flat blade bit with a 3/8" ratchet. That usually works for me if I've got the room to cut the screw.

And like the rest said... if nothing else works, drill and tap.

ok heres an update..

pretty much got nowhere..

tried a vise grip... grabs good but bolt doesnt turn..

tired one of those bolt extracter things... drill is too weak to pull it out..

damn theres just too much to mention...

i pretty much figured that the only way to take that thing out is with a breaker bar or a impact...


so i guess i gotta try dremeling a slot for a flathead so i can use a breaker bar..

but 5 hours, and got nowhere....
havent tried the one where i can

ahh that sucks man, keep at it.. when you get that bolt out.. post a picture of it, and you drinking a beer. We have all been there...

how much is left of the bolt? try using a pipe wrench. I've had some really tough bolts come out easy...

Rear camber correction. You stack washers under the two bolts of the rear UCA, and it cambers back out.

have you sprayed the bolts with PBblaster at all? this usually helps loosen them, but let it seit and soak for a couple of hours

Bump for LOTS of penetrating oil, then try the previous tricks again.

Ya, as said above, use PB blaster or something similar. That stuff is a god send. Especially with these older cars, broken bolts will be prevented 10 fold. Let it soak for atleast an hour for really bad bolts, over night would be best.

Ive had my fair share of broken bolts and since I have started using this stuff, not a single one.

i dont know if its known, but the bolt i broke wasnt the stock oem bolt from honda... it was one that i got from city mill...

the bolt broke while i was putting the new one in...

i think that the only way to get it off right now (which i dont have time to do yet) is cut a slit into the bolt end and use some sort of flathead attachment to put on a breaker bar to take it off...

but yes, victory pic is going to happen..!!!

hmm, sounds like you might have used the wrong thread size and cross threaded it, thats probably why your bolt got stuck, make sure its a 1.25 instead of 1.5 threads(finer thread)most honda bolts are like this, so be carefull when purchasing any bolts from your local hardware store, other wise you could try and use a bolt out kit, depending if there is enough of it sticking out

i bought the right size bolts..

10 x 1.25 x 30 (or 40mm i think) mm

you said the drill was too weak to pull the stud out on the nut trick why not use a socket wrench and just keep the expletive at it

so the threads were screwed to begin with..

well im gonna guess you got the wheel off and the arm off and you just have that broken bolt

one thing that worked for me in those kind of situations is a pipe wrench! i know it sounds crazy. but as you torque the wrench, the teeth dig in. might work for you

tried to weld a nut to the bolt, but its not sticking far out enough to get a solid weld...

still stuck, but we got it to turn 90 degrees...

guess thats SOME progress right..??
