Traps for an LS 5g dx hatch???
Anybody have any clue what traps I should be hitting? My launches suck and I have yet to break into the 16's. My r/t's have been high 2.#. The engine doesnt feel as responsive as it could be. I am using ef-1 modified autolite plugs.

my launch sucks and I shifted at 6k in second gear but even still i should be under 16's right? my bro has an ls teg and it feels much more powerful than my ls thats why im thinking it could be ignition timing. we never checked it with a timing light after the swap.
where should i be shifting with the LS?

Re: Traps for an LS 5g dx hatch??? (ARIZONA)
Each .1 off of your 60' time will drop you close to .2 in the 1/4. So if you get down from a 2.8 to a 2.1 thats .7 in the 1/4, which equates to almost a second and a half faster (which is closer to where you should be). Either learn to drive or you have serious issues with your car.

Man!! THose times are horrible! You want to launch around 3500-4000....any more and you'll nothing but spin in street tires. You want to wrap it up to 6900rpm's and shift there! You should be able to almost finish the 1/4 in 3rd gear...just shifting into 4th. Sounds like you just need more practice behind the wheel. And put your car on a diet...

Shitty tires has nothing to do with it. There are many people on this board who can get 2.1-2.260fts on bald or good all season tires. You set the tire pressure to 18-20psi in the front tires, then for the launch hold the RPM's around 3500...then when the yellow light before the green comes on feather the clutch (DONT DUMP IT) and you should get traction and then floor it when you get going

alright...i admit launches need work. but on top of that my LS feels sluggish like the ignition timing is off. doesnt feel like it has the torque that LS's do.

Exactly! Or atleast check it anyway to be sure.....timing light is only like $20-$50 at any automotive store or Sears.

ok...results of ignition timing: 5 degrees retarded
we made a quick change and its sitting at 16 degrees now. finally pulls like an LS should. back to the track thursday to post some real times.
