trany/axel noise...any idea why?
ok to start of i have a 99 civic si. recently i've started hearing a click when i start off from a stop as well as when i shift gears or blip the throttle while in gear. it seem to click as soon as or just after the clutch engauges. i do not think it is the cv boots or joints b/c it is a single click and it does not occur when i turn. it only happens when the motor/tranny is under load. i also cannot figure out if it is coming from a particular side, it sounds like the center to me. i did a search and the only thing i found that was remotely close had something to do w/ the half shaft bearings, which i will look into. if anyone has any idea what this is it's be a great help. thanks

I have the same problem once in a while, anyone have any more info, I have a EJ7 HX coupe, so I don't think it's a SI tranny problem...

axles??? does it click more when you turn all the way to one side or the other? if so check the cv boots on your axles. if ones torn its most likely shot and its easier to change the whole axle and if you go to the right parts store it costs the same after the core charge. let me know if this is what it is or not.

Well I just checked my boots and the passenger side outer boot is torn. Can anyone give me simple instructions on how to change it? I have the haynes manual, but they always leave something out. Thanks.

easiest thing to do is change the whole axel....you can change the boot but if it is clicking already you have probably ruined the CV joint so just change the whole axel....autozone has lifetime warrenty on axels for 70 bucks....

so it only clicks when your clutch engages? sounds like a clutch problem to me. not axles. maybe you need a new clutch, or throwout bearing.
