Transmission Whine/Grind Need Help.
Hi, My brother's having a problem with his transmission and I figured you guys would be my best bet for an answer. To start it off, his car is a 94 Civic SI, (with the stock motor/tranny) Two days ago he was backing out of his driveway (in reverse) and went to go put it in first gear, and it was stuck in Reverse. I went out and helped him pop it into neutral. Then we got it into first gear and he started going up a slight hill and it was making a whining and light grinding sound only in first gear. It still does it, but he's been limping around in 2nd to get from point A to point B. We blead the clutch fluid, checked the shift linkages, and the transmission fluid. The clutch fluid was pretty nasty looking, the shift linkages appear to be fine, and the transmission fluid was clean. Can you give me any other ideas for things to check for, he's got a CX tranny sitting around, but really would like to stick with his SI transmission. Should we also drain the transmission fluid and look for like any metal shavings? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.
