Default Transmission trouble shooting.... Help Please?????

Hello all tranny techs out there. I have a 98 hatch with a stock y7 tranny. I swapped it out for an 99 y8 tranny today and I'm having some problems. Are all of the D-series shift linkages the same? Are all of the tranny and shifters compatible? It was my understanding that all of the 92-00 D-series trannies, linkages and shifters were all interchangeable. I got the y8 tranny in no problem but it does not want to go into second gear. I can feel it go into the gate but when I let the clutch out it just grinds like crazy and pops out of the gate. I tried three difference shift linkages and shifters to no avail. If I try and rev match it and hold the shifter against the gate firmly it will sometimes go into gear. It feels like it is barely meshing though. If I let the shifter go it will immeadiately pop out. The fluid levels are all good and I even put in new shifter bushings. Didn't seem to help at all.

Can someone help me out. Is this tranny toast? Is there some other kind of adjustments that can be made? The guy I bought the tranny from on here said it was a good tranny with no problems when I purchased it.

It looks like I have a bent shift fork. I wish I had known that before I insalled the tranny. Now I am going to have to do it all over again. Another 2 hours labor for a $50 part..... You can see some pics from another guy who is having the same problem...
