Transmission slipping from high gears to low

Transmission slipping from high gears to low
1996 Honda Civic Ex, 2 Door Coupe, Automatic
Whenever the car is shifting down from a higher gear (slowing down), I feel that the shift comes a second too late and usually accompanies some sort of "strong nudge" or something. I don't know how to describe it, but there is definitely something wrong.
As I said, this almost always happens when I'm slowing down (i.e. stop signs, freeway exits, etc). No problem when shifting up, though.

I'd rather have shifting issues than slipping issues...
Check the level. #1 thing with auto trans is correct fluid level. #2 is fluid type/quality.
If the level is good flush the tranny fluid it takes ~10 quarts to completely flush the fluid (about ~$80-90 at the Honda dealer). Use only genuine Honda fluid.

If no improvement check throttle/kickdown cable adjustment and motor mounts.
