Transmission shift points and what controls it?
HI,
I just got a civic with a blown trans in a deal with another car, I've done engines and/or trans on 4 different 5-speed civics and autos in 60s Mustangs but this is new ground for me.
I just put in a new torque converter and a junkyard auto trans into a 1995 Civic EX stock V-tec engine. When I took it for a spin it seemed to be shifting awfully Firm (Along the lines of a what a shift kit would do in an old car). From 1st to 2nd it shifts at 3,800. From second to third it would not shift up until it hit 4,200RPM and then 4th gear didn't shift into until 62 MPH. Also when slowing down you can feel it down shift (Its catches and engine brakes it slower). So I have 3 questions:
My lockup solenoid valve will click when it is jumped to the battery (checked according to service Man) but the Ohm reading is 31.2 Ohms (Manual says 14.1-15.5) so would this cause it to shift like this? The old trans
Is there a way to Ohm test the Speed Sensor, the speedo works fine so no concern here. just thinking maybe it controls the shift points.
What controls the shift points on these Auto trans?
Thanks in advance for helping out a first time poster!

Re: Transmission shift points and what controls it?
there is a cable from the tb to the front of the transmission called the kick down cable. adjusting that will adjust when the car will shift.
