Default Transmission Question

Before I get flamed I did do a search on here, and a google search. I got answers but they were all mixed reviews.

So I have a d18y8 and for some reason it has a S40 tranny, so I got a S20 tranny. My question is what axels I can use. Some say D16z axels, some say integra axels, and some say the Y8 axels.

I have the Y8 axels so can I just use these?

Thanks in advance..

just use what the axles that go with the car

ex:
92-95 civic - use 92-95 civic axles
96+ - use 96+ axles

I have 1997 civic DX and trying to save money on used low miles tranny

Would S20 fit on D16y8? If so any mods need to do or just bolt in and play? I seen mounts bit difference for clutch oil line difference on housing mounts.

Let me know if S20 would work with 97 axles.

Thanks,
Doug

D series axles will work on any D series trans. There is no way an Integra or B series axle would work. Your fine with what you have. "EKs" with a D16Y8 came with the S40 trans.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the S40 a better trans than the S20? If so, then why switch?

I know my S40 has long top end gears but 1st and 2nd are short and the car will get up and go (its still a stock Y8 no matter how you look at it).

S20 cost less than S40 on the market I plan not to go crazy racing on the street just to go place to place for about 18 months before I get brand new future civic type-r if would happen at the dealership
