If u race it it's probably the synchros. 2nd and 3rd gear like to go out. I lost my 3rd gear on my other tranny. It's only going to slightly grind at first (at high RPMs). But later when it gets worse, it'll grind at lower RPMs. U might also want to check the tranny oil first before jumping to conclusions. If the oil is low, it will cause it to grind or pop out of gear.

It has nothing to do with racing. Change the tranny fluid and use ONLY honda MTF. See if that works.

Good luck getting that covered by the dealer. What kind of tranny fluid did you use? Honda MTF?

My transmission blew up around 20,000mi for the same reason. There should be a service bulletin for this so they shouldn't give you as much hell as they did me when the problem was first surfacing. Stay diligent and threaten to take it higher up the ladder if they don't take care of you (if it is in fact still under warranty).

? How can you be sure? Driving habits have a ton to do with synchro life. If you race the hell out of it all the time, then most likely you are going to ruin a synchro.

3rd gear synchros are notorious for going out in almost all Honda's that are raced. Mine in my SI are starting to grind and all my friends have gone through at least one set in their Civics.

honda guys are going through what we did with the mustangs and camaro's in the early 90's. syncro's are very soft metal. they go bad. it is innevitable. unless you go with a clutchless tranny but thats not possible in a street driven car.
