Default Transmission problems!!! need advice

OK so I have a tranny problem, lately my tranny has been grinding in 3rd gear above 3500 rpms when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. When I got my swap I used the originial throwout bearing from my old tranny with 230,000 miles. I thought it was my tranny fluid so i decided to change it and used Royal Purple Synchromax (approx. 1.8Quarts). The tranny still grinds in 3rd gear. So my question is should i buy a new tranny for around 350 or just get a new upgraded clutch kit, pressure plate and throwout bearing for around 300?

This won't help with your grinding. The grinding is caused by worn synchros that need to be replaced to fix the problem. 3rd gear grind is very common in Civics. A band-aid solution would be to use GM Synchromesh Friction Modified fluid that may get rid of the grind for a while; until you can get a more permanent solution (new tranny or gearset).

Couldnt this also be because of using an old throwout bearing in my new tranny. Ive only had the tranny for about 12,000 miles

Grinding during a shift is caused by warn synchros. Third gear, at higher RPMs, is an extremely common problem in Honda trannys. They use weak brass synchro cones that don't wear very well.

But how many miles did the tranny have when you swapped it in? It could have been abused or well worn before you swapped it.

I meant to say that as well. If it was the TO, it would be a more consistant problem, rather than at just one shift point.

nah its just 2nd to 3rd gear and it rides fine in 3rd gear and shifts fine in every other gear. I can down shift as fast as i want from 4th to 3rd and the tranny wont grind at all. Dont know if this is anymore help or not but when my cars off and i have my foot in on the clutch and im going through the gears its extremely hard to get into 3rd and get out of 4th gear.

i have the same problem, except it also happens in 1st and 2nd if i dont step on it, i mean if i just try to cruise slowly on 1st or 2nd it will grind like really loud but if i change gear fast and floor it a bit it wont do that....and i have the same 3rd gear prblem as him....
it's like i can avoid the grinding in 1st and 2nd if i try to but 3rd is inevetible 4th and 5th are fine....anyway i bought a used tranny for 300$
if anyone wants the phone number of the shop it's 323-589-2844
they also got lots of motors, i think the price i got quoted for a gsr motor with tranny was $2,800
back to topic, so anyway, i just bought a new tranny cuz i didnt wanna change anything and then find out it wasnt that.....got a new clutch and everything, if anybody wants to buy my old tranny and maybe work on it ill let it go for 100$

i guess my best bet is to wait out to see if the grind goes away to give the new tranny fluid time to work and if not then ill try the hype everyone talks about, the GM synchromesh friction modified. How many quarts does everyone usually use?
