Transmission Problems
 

Alright, i just got my new civic and now im debating as to wether or not to sell it. The car has a transmission problem, there is "no" noise (i will have to record a clip of it) from the tranny when you let the clutch out (push the pedal in). But as soon as i let the clutch out, even if its in neutral is starts making a really nasty noise, almost a clunkclunk type of noise.

ok so hold on, it makes no noise when its disengaged (pushed in) but makes a noise when you let the pedal out?? And yea get that sound clip up cuz a clunk clunk ot you is confusing as hell for me. Whhat year civic, what motor, how many miles.

1996 Honda Civic EX 131,000 miles, Will have to record the sound clip once it starts raining out here

throw out bearing or pressure plate are my guesses. Quick tip, its gonna be cheaper for you to just buy a used trans in good shape than have a trans shop fix it. And if you can work on you car yourself it shouldnt cost more than 100 bucks

If the noise is only audible at a stop, in nuetral, with the clutch out, i'd say throw-out bearing. If that's the case buy a new cluth kit (throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate and disc) If it sounds like a box of rocks during acceleration and between shifts i'd buy a tranny and clutch kit. Throw out bearing will be somewhat quiet, tranny will be on the loud side. Does the car have the original clutch? how does it feel when you shift?

When the car is running and in neutral, put slight pressure on the clutch, see if it goes away. not enough to disengauge it, just enough so the slave just touches the fork. If it still does it, get out of the car and go under the hood. Grab the shift fork through the boot and push it toward the passengers side of the car, see if the noise stops. I know that on my old transmission had that problem, the actual spring that holds on the shift fork was loose.

this could also indicate a bad Input shaft bearing. Check out Bauley Civic's DIY for replacing this

Getting a decent tranny and sending it to a tranny shop to have it repaired wouldent cost that much? What kind of tranny, a junkyard/boneyard or one from the forums, and yes I have access to a lift so I will be doing the work myself. Thanks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif
