Transmission problem - grinding noise in neutral, goes away when clutch pedal pressed
So I just swap out my dx motor to a si(d16z6). I bought the motor with the tranny with it. I started it up and I hear some knocking or grinding from the transmission when it's in neutral but when you step on the clucth the noise goes away. So I'm pretty it's the pilot bearing bearing bad hopefully, so if I was to buy a used or rebuild tranny how would I know I that tranny that I'm going to buy is a si tranny? I know that on the tranny there is a serial number on there but what am I looking for on that serial number to make sure that is a si tranny for a 92-95 Honda civic si?

Theres a round stamp on the passenger's side of the tranny near the back by the fill plug, it will say one of 2 things:
A000 -> CX/VX/DX/LX
B000 -> EX/Si/HX
Note that S20 transmissions are '92 - '95 (there was no HX offered for those years so if you're guarenteed to be getting an EX/Si tranny. the S40 transmissions are '96 - '00 and you run the risk of getting an HX tranny.
Btw, if your transmission shifts fine and just makes noise just replace whatever bearing(s) happen to be bad, they aren't that hard to change and more often than not the transmission you buy will have the same issue.
